HIG BioHealth Partners, the healthcare investment affiliate of private equity firm HIG Capital, has led a USD40 million investment in VertiFlex, a producer of minimally invasive interventions for spinal stenosis. HIG and Endeavour Vision co-led the financing alongside New Enterprise Associates, Thomas, McNerney & Partners, and Alta Partners.   Proceeds from the financing will primarily be used to fund US commercial expansion of the company’s Superion Indirect Decompression System, a minimally invasive spinal implant designed to treat moderate lumbar spinal stenosis, a painful and often debilitating condition that affects an estimated 500,000 new patients every year in the US.

The Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) has launched the Jersey Private Fund (JPF) Guide, setting out the criteria for Jersey’s new private fund product which can be marketed to up to 50 professional investors. Private equity firms globally anticipate a surge in interest from Chinese buyers for acquisitions in healthcare, tech and infrastructure, according to research conducted by MVision Private Equity Advisers in conjunction with the London Business School. LivingLens, a software provider of video mining and analytics technologies, has secured a further GBP1.3 million in funding from the Angel CoFund plus further angels including marketeers and ex-city financiers. The Angel CoFund is an angel investor from LivingLens’ 2014 involvement in the Collider Accelerator programme.   LivingLens plans to use the funding to accelerate development of its Enterprise video analytics technology platform. Concern about the impact of geopolitical risk in the investment profession has grown since the UK’s decision to leave the European Union in July 2016, according to a poll of almost 1,500 investment professionals from around the world by the CFA Institute. Freetrade, an app-only stockbroker service designed to democratise access to the stock market by offering zero commission on global transactions, has raised GBP1.1 million within 12 days of its second Crowdcube crowd fundraising campaign.
