African private equity specialist Development Partners International (DPI) has become a signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (the UNPRI).
DPI has been investing in a responsible manner since its inception 10 years ago. All of DPI’s companies benefit from this work, which is headed by specialist sustainability manager Michael Hall.
DPI also uses proprietary toolkits along with guidelines and help from some of its development finance institution investors.

Cairngorm Capital has appointed Stuart Whiteford as investment manager.
Whiteford joins from the EuroAsia special assets group at Goldman Sachs, where he was an executive director involved in strategy and investment for a range of European opportunities.
Prior to Goldman Sachs, he was a member of Citigroup’s UK investment banking team, advising companies and private equity investors on mergers, acquisitions and equity capital market transactions.
As an investment manager at Cairngorm Capital, he will source new opportunities, execute transactions and work in partnership with the management teams of Cairngorm Capital’s portfolio companies.
Whiteford’s appointment is the first
UK private equity house Maven Capital Partners has completed a GBP6.5 million management buy-out of Healthpoint Limited, a supplier of healthcare and beauty products into the retail sector.
The equity investment was funded through Maven’s co-investment network for professional clients, Investor Partners, with debt and working capital funding provided by Barclays.
The investment will enable Healthpoint to fund further new product development, with around 30 new product lines in the pipeline for launch in the next year, and support the business in driving organic growth from its long-established relationships. Congenica, a provider of clinical genome analysis technology, has raised GBP8 million (USD10 million) in a Series B financing round.
Existing investors Cambridge Innovation Capital (CIC) and Amadeus Capital Partners participated alongside new investor, Parkwalk Advisors.
Congenica will use the Series B investment to sustain the commercial roll out of its Sapientia clinical genome analysis platform, by accelerating international growth and expanding customer support. It will also invest in further product development and innovation.
Congenica has developed the Sapientia technology platform to analyse genome-scale DNA data, producing comprehensive diagnostic reports that facilitate clinical decision-making and inform R&D.
BGF (Business Growth Fund) is continuing to expand its team covering the South West of England with the appointment of James Skade, who will be based in the firm’s Bristol office.
Before joining BGF Skade spent five years at EY, most recently in the corporate finance team where he advised on a number of transactions including the sale of IPL to Civica and the acquisition of Transtank Pty by Western Global.

Global investment firm KKR has invested in Gambol Pet Group, a provider of high-quality pet food headquartered in Shandong Province, China.
Gambol and KKR are partnering to expand the company’s production capacity in key markets including China, Thailand, countries in Europe, and the US, where it is currently the largest private-label provider of pet treats to Walmart.
Gambol further aims to leverage KKR’s experience in food production and in implementing best practices in the area of food safety and security to provide even greater pet nutrition solutions to customers around the world.
