Australian venture capital funds raised a record USD568 million in 2016 with investment jumping 50 per cent to AUD347 million, according to the latest Australian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCAL) and EY Yearbook. Collectively private equity and venture capital raised AUD2.74 billion in FY2016, slightly down from AUD2.87 billion in FY2015.   While private equity fundraising was lower than the previous year (AUD2.55b) at AUD2.17 billion, AUD628million of this is earmarked for growth/expansion deals.   Investments made by the industry in the past financial year grew 5 per cent with AUD3 billion of the total AUD3.7 billion spent

Omnes Capital is selling its stake in Nomios to Infradata Group, a network and security integrator in the Benelux region owned by Waterland Private Equity. The deal involves founding director Sébastien Kher, the company’s managers and the funds managed by Odysée Venture.   Omnes acquired a stake in Nomios in January 2013.   Founded in 2004, Nomios is an IT services company specialising in IT security and business network performance optimisation. Private equity firm NorthEdge Capital has strengthened its new business team in the north with the appointment of Nicola McQuaid as investment manager and Greg Holmes as investment executive. Noerr has advised the Gegenbauer Group on the acquisition of a majority stake in RGM from Georgsmarienhütte. The takeover, which spanned five European jurisdictions, was coordinated and supported by a Noerr team led by partners Tibor Fedke and Christian Pleister.   The Gegenbauer Group and Georgsmarienhütte agreed on the acquisition of 90 per cent of the shares in RGM retroactively as of 1 January 2016.   The activities of the RGM Group will be continued in future under the umbrella of the Gegenbauer Group, which is among Germany’s leading providers of facility management services, with a workforce of 15,000 and
Highview Capital has hired six investment professionals with expertise in private equity, credit and restructuring. Diversified alternative investment managers (IMs) are unlikely to see soaring private equity deal activity in 2017 even with record available dry powder, as they take a more cautious approach to new transactions amid elevated market valuations.
