Octopus Investments, a provider of venture capital trusts (VCTs) in the UK, has launched a GBP70 million fundraise for Octopus Titan Venture Capital Trust. With over GBP309 million in assets under management, Titan VCT is the largest VCT on the market and has a strong track record of delivering returns for investors.   Since it was first launched in 2007 it has focused on investing into early stage companies with the potential for high growth.   Today the VCT offers investors access to a well-established and diverse portfolio of around 50 smaller companies. New Orleans-based venture capital firm Valmiki 504 has appointed Neil Gibbons as venture partner to launch and run Ceres 504, a business incubator which will add branded foods and food technology to firm’s worldwide network of industry incubators. Denver-based private equity firm Revelstoke Capital Partners has completed its investment in Fast Pace Urgent Care, a portfolio company of Shore Capital Partners. Fast Pace is a regional manager of urgent care clinics across rural Tennessee and Kentucky.   The company’s nurse practitioner model with physician oversight increases rural patient access to healthcare while delivering high quality outcomes and improving patient satisfaction. Due to the rural focus of the company’s current operations, many of the patients use the company’s urgent care clinics as their primary care solution allowing the company to function as an integral healthcare provider in the community.
Fooji, a real-time fan engagement platform, has closed a USD800,000 seed round led by Omaha-based Dundee Venture Capital with additional support from KGC Capital. Fooji will use the initial funding to scale by expanding its sales team and hiring engineers to build out on-demand service integrations. It will also further develop analytics and reporting capabilities to create and refine its on-demand delivery marketing channel.   Fooji’s platform arms brands with ways to fortify fan brand loyalty and engagement via in-the-moment social engagement and user-generated content. PNC Bank has closed two credit packages totalling nearly USD79.5 million for Rental Equipment Investment Company (REIC), an equipment rental company based in Florida, and Total Plastics Inc (TPI), a distributor and fabricator of plastic sheet, rod, tube, film and tape, headquartered in Michigan. Both companies will use the funds, in part, to finance acquisitions.   REIC is a rental equipment company formed from the completion of the following acquisitions: Midway Rental (Kalispell, Montana), Reliable Equipment Rental (Wheatland, Wyoming), Hillside Rental (Greeley, Colorado) and Pro Rentals and Sales, Inc. Lemonade, which aims to be the world's first peer-to-peer insurance company, has secured an investment from XL Innovate, with managing partner Tom Hutton joining the Lemonade board. XL Innovate is a venture capital firm focused on technology-driven innovation for insurance. C5 Capital, a London-headquartered technology investment specialist, has appointed Marcos Battisti as partner and head of the C5 Cloud Partners fund. Battisti previously held the position of managing director of Intel Capital in London since April 2010.   He has been investing in technology venture and growth for 18 years. Gramercy Funds Management, a USD5.7 billion emerging markets investment manager, has appointed Chris Tackney (pictured) as managing director and co-head of the Gramercy trading desk. Tackney has over 20 years of trading and portfolio management experience in emerging markets and will co-head the trading desk with Matt Maloney, managing director.   Both Tackney and Maloney report directly to Robert Koenigsberger, managing partner and chief investment officer.   Tackney, along with Maloney, will manage a trading desk that encompasses performing and distressed corporates, sovereigns, equities, credit default swaps and currency hedges. Healthcare-focused private equity firm Shore Capital Partners has sold Fast Pace Urgent Care, a provider of urgent care services throughout rural Tennessee and Kentucky, to Revelstoke Capital Partners. In December 2012, Shore Capital partnered with Fast Pace founders, Stan Bevis and Reams Powers, to help grow their initial seven urgent care locations.   Shore Capital and Fast Pace together executed an accelerated growth plan and expanded the business from seven to 36 clinics in approximately three and a half years.   The growth came primarily through de novo expansion as the company opened 26 new locations and acquired three locations.
The Latin American Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (LAVCA) has launched the LAVCA venture investors content platform, with breaking deals, investor perspectives, research and curated news from the Latin American venture ecosystem. Venture investors have deployed over USD2.1 billion in Latin America since 2011, increasing deal activity year-on-year, according to LAVCA’s Latin America Venture Capital Five-Year Trends report.   Even in the context of Brazil’s economic downturn, venture capital investors deployed record levels of capital in the country in 2015, with USD594 million invested across 182 deals.
