Berkshire Partners has appointed Samantha Adams and Thomas Kuo as Managing Directors effective 1 January, 2016.  Adams and Kuo join the 22 existing Managing Directors of Berkshire in managing the firm and its affiliated investment funds. Berkshire’s MDs have an average tenure of 16 years with the firm. Adams joined Berkshire Partners in 2012 as Director of Talent Management. Prior to joining Berkshire, she held various positions at Bank of America, Hill Holiday Advertising, Discovery Health Channel and Bain & Co. China Everbright Limited (CEL) has launched a multi-strategy alternative investment fund (FoF) with an initial RMB5 billion of committed capital, RMB1.25 billion of which is from CEL’s principal capital.  The fund’s target is RMB10 billion, which will be invested in CEL's primary market funds as well as in leading private equity funds that maintain good cooperation with CEL, an excellent market reputation and a strong performance track record.  CEL believes that a multi-strategy alternative investment fund (FoF Fund) can significantly diversify the investment portfolio of institutional investors, alleviating the volatility attributed to similarity in investment portfolios.
Almirall, a pharmaceutical company based in Barcelona, has exercised a call option to acquire 100 per cent of the share capital of ThermiGen, a privately held medical aesthetics technology company and a developer and manufacturer of thermistor-regulated energy systems for plastic surgery and aesthetics dermatology applications.  In September 2015, Almirall acquired a minority stake in ThermiGen for USD USD5 million representing 7.7 per cent of the share capital of the company and paid USD2.5 million in exchange of a call option right to acquire up to 100 per cent of the company for an Enterprise Value of C. Patron Capital and Electra Partners have agreed the GBP325 million acquisition of Grainger Retirement Solutions, the home reversion equity release business of Grainger plc.  Completion of the transaction, in which each of Patron and Electra will invest GBP45 million, is subject to regulatory approvals. Board representation will be equal between Patron Capital and Electra Partners. Patron Capital will be the operating partner. Retirement Solutions is an originator, consolidator and servicer of home reversion equity release plans. The business has around 20 staff and its current portfolio comprises over 3,500 properties. MCI.EuroVentures fund has signed an agreement for the purchase of 100 per cent of the shares in Mobiltek, the owner of Dotpay, a Polish electronic payment specialist. The latest investment of the MCI.EuroVentures fund is in line with the strategy to strengthen the fund’s exposure to services in the financial technologies sector (FinTech), one of the fastest growing new technology sectors. Dotpay is one of the leaders of the Polish market of electronic payments. GE Capital, Corporate Finance has served lead arranger on a USD180 million senior secured credit facility for Arbor Investments, a Chicago-based food and beverage private investment firm, to acquire a majority equity stake in DPI Specialty Foods.  GE Capital Markets served as sole lead arranger and bookrunner on the transaction. The Riverside Company has acquired Euromed, a provider of standardised herbal extracts and natural active substances for the pharmaceutical, dietary supplement and cosmetic industries. Euromed is a corporate carve-out from Meda, a Swedish pharmaceutical company.
