Jeff Sica has launched Circle Squared Alternative Investments, a firm dedicated to providing financial advisors with access to alternative investments previously available only to institutions and ultra-high net-worth investors.
Sica’s approach to simplifying alternative market investing – investments that “touch the real economy” – is intended to give advisors and their clients greater confidence in their financial future.

Albion Community Power (ACP), a local power generation company, has funded the development of a small scale landfill gas engine in Docking, Norfolk.
Docking will be developed in conjunction with ACP’s biogas partner, AlphaGen Renewables, which will oversee the installation and operation of a 50kW microgeneration landfill gas engine.
The project will generate power from the landfill gas resource at the site under a 20 year agreement with Norfolk County Council.
Docking represents the first project with AlphaGen Renewables and the first biogas project in the ACP portfolio.

Emerging markets private equity (EM PE) fundraising and investment activity in the first half of 2014 showed positive signs of growth, as funds raised and capital invested increased year-on-year.
Fund managers raised USD20 billion and invested USD14 billion through the first six months of 2014, corresponding to a 48 per cent and 28 per cent increase, respectively, compared with the same period in 2013, and on pace to surpass last year’s totals.

BNP Paribas Securities Services has appointed Nick Jenkins as head of technical for trustee and depositary services in the UK.
Jenkins has 30 years’ experience in the trustee and depositary industry.

High net worth (HNW) women are turning to non-traditional investments as they look to generate income, drive capital growth, and achieve portfolio diversification.
These are among the latest findings from “Investing Outside the Box”, a study on trends in non-traditional investing from MainStay Investments, a New York Life company.
The study was conducted by Harris Poll among a nationally representative sample of more than 800 high net worth investors aged 40-65.

He joined the board on 12 August 2014.
Brierwood holds a wealth of experience in investment data analytics and solutions, most recently in his role as chief operating officer of MSCI, which he held from 2006 to February 2014.
Prior to his role at MSCI, Brierwood worked for Morgan Stanley for 20 years and held a variety of senior positions, including global risk manager of the Morgan Stanley equity division and chief operating officer of Morgan Stanley’s institutional and retail securities
GE Capital’s telecom, media and technology (TMT) financing business served as administrative agent on USD69 million of senior secured credit facilities to support the acquisition of AGDATA by Vista Equity Partners.
GE Capital Markets served as sole lead arranger and bookrunner on the facilities.

Ridgemont Equity Partners is to acquire a majority interest in Cross River Fiber, a provider of dark fibre and communications infrastructure-based services.
The proposed transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2014, following the satisfaction of customary regulatory closing conditions.
The agreement has been approved by both Cross River’s board of directors and Ridgemont. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Prior to joining WTAS, Lim spent nine years as a tax practitioner in Japan and was a partner at Zeirishi-Hojin PricewaterhouseCoopers in Tokyo.
A Bay Area native, Lim spent six years prior to Tokyo servicing technology clients as an international tax practitioner at both PricewaterhouseCoopers and Arthur Andersen in San Jose, California.
