CapMan Plc has launched its fourth private equity real estate fund in the Nordic countries.
The investment capacity of CapMan Nordic Real Estate (CMNRE) is approximately EUR125m after the first closing that was held on 6 March 2013.
CMNRE invests mainly in properties with value-add potential that can be realised through active management. The focus of the fund is in office and retail properties located in the Nordic countries.
Together with CapMan and the team, five institutional investors from Finland and the US have committed a total of EUR50.1m to CMNRE at the first closing of the fund. CapMan’s and
London law firm HowardKennedyFsi has advised on an offer for subscription to raise a further GBP10m for The City Pub Company (East) and The City Pub Company (West) under the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS).
The companies were established in 2011, have already raised some GBP7.5m in aggregate under the EIS and now own a total of seven pubs located in affluent cities and market towns across Southern England.
As with the earlier funds raised, investors under the current share offer will be able to take advantage of the very generous EIS tax reliefs including a 30 per cent relief
Bastion Infrastructure Group has appointed Enrique Fuentes as a partner on the company’s investment team.
He will be based in Toronto, Canada.
Fuentes has over 20 years of infrastructure investment and management experience. He brings industrial and financial expertise as a strategic investor and asset manager from his 13 years with Cintra and Ferrovial, where he was responsible for overseeing the build-out of their concession business in roads and airports.
Most recently, Fuentes was senior director of global infrastructure for KPMG where he provided advice to governments on the development and implementation of public-private partnerships and to developers and investors
Private equity and venture capital firms committed USD7.9bn to investments in Latin America in 2012, representing a five-year high and a 21 per cent increase over 2011, according to data released by the Latin American Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (LAVCA).
The USD7.9bn total reflects 237 investments, a 37 per cent increase in the number of deals from the previous year. Seven large firms that had raised over USD11bn for pan-regional and Brazilian funds in 2010 and 2011 put that money to work in new deals across a range of markets and sectors.

Fund administrator SGGG Fexserv has selected the Linedata Mshare transfer agency solution to support its expanding business in Malta and complement its proprietary systems.
SGGG Fexserv has been established in Malta since 2008. Taking advantage of the island’s position as a growing administrative centre, the company has increased its client base of alternative investment funds to a wide extent requiring an enhanced transfer agency system in order to allow a wider range of scenarios, reflecting the diverse needs of alternative managers.
It also wanted a solution ready to meet changing industry and regulatory requirements where continuous product investment was important.
Sverica International Management’s Fund III has acquired Dexmet Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of highly engineered expanded foils and polymers used in a variety of end markets.
The company provides solutions for a range of mission critical applications, including lightning strike protection for major composite aircraft manufacturers, anodes and cathodes for advanced battery technologies and supportive materials for filtration and automotive applications.

Albion Ventures has sold Nelson House, a mental health rehabilitation hospital, to a joint venture formed by Care UK and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust for GBP8m.
The transaction is the first to involve a joint venture between the NHS and a private healthcare provider to acquire a hospital.
A new hospital, Nelson House opened in May 2012 and was backed by Orchard Portman Hospitals and Albion Ventures. As a result of the sale funds managed by Albion have generated a GBP2m profit, equating to a return of approximately 1.4x their investment and an IRR of 18.3 per cent
Octopus has made a further investment into Metrasens, a technology company that manufactures detection products for a number of security and healthcare markets across the world.
Octopus first invested into the company in 2009.
Headquartered in Great Malvern in the UK, and with offices in Lisle, Illinois, US, Metrasens has designed the most portable full body scan system available. This is being used in prisons, police operations, police custody suites, embassies, hotels and other commercial venues that require highly-sensitive, quickly deployable and portable detection solutions.
Metrasens has also developed a product for use in the healthcare market. Through its
Merger and acquisitions (M&A), private equity and tax professionals from the technology, financial services and healthcare sectors expect an increase in their companies’ or clients’ deal activity in 2013 compared to 2012, according to a survey conducted by KPMG.
