Blum Capital Partners, an investment firm active in investing in both privately structured investments as well as blocks of publicly traded securities, has hired Peter Westley and Carol Fu in its investment team as partner and associate, respectively.
Westley was previously a managing director at Salomon Smith Barney and a partner at ThinkEquity Partners. Most recently, he was a partner at North Point Advisors, an investment banking firm specialising in mergers and acquisitions.

Mashery, a provider of API management platforms and strategy, has raised USD10m in funding led by OpenView Venture Partners and other existing investors including Cisco, Formative Ventures, First Round Capital and .406 Ventures.
The company will use the financing to broaden its global operations, sales and marketing force.
Mashery will also further expand its business in API strategy, platform and distribution for the rapidly increasing mainstream adoption of APIs to scale business-critical functions.

Rutland Partners, a turnaround and restructuring investor, has appointed Michael Reynolds as investment executive.
Reynolds is a business and legal studies graduate from University College Dublin and a postgraduate (accounting) of the Michael Smurfit Business School, Dublin.
Reynolds qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG Corporate Finance in 2010 where he spent three and a half years. He then moved to Hawkpoint Partners later in 2010 to join its corporate advisory group where he worked on a number of debt restructuring deals as well as sell-side and buy-side transactions.

More than half (51 per cent) of consumer goods and retail (CG&R) sector companies are focusing their M&A strategy on high-growth economies, rather than domestic (30 per cent) or global developed markets (19 per cent), according to a survey published by Clifford Chance.
The research, which was conducted by the Economist Intelligent Unit on behalf of Clifford Chance, surveyed nearly 400 companies with annual revenues in excess of USD1bn from across a range of regions and industry sectors, including the CG&R sector.
The survey revealed a positive outlook for the sector with 60 per cent of CG&R companies expecting
Sitoa Global, an e-commerce solutions and service provider, has secured an investment from Ingenium Capital, a European based private equity firm.
The funds will be used to continue the company’s expansion into the growing social e-commerce segment.
Ingenium Capital invested USD500,000 in a private placement at a price of USD0.15 per share and has an option to invest an additional USD300,000 at a price of USD0.30 per share.

Waller Capital Partners, a New York-based investment bank and advisory firm focused on the telecommunications, media and technology sectors, has appointed William L. Bradley as a managing director.
Bradley will lead Waller’s efforts with data centre, managed hosting and cloud computing clients, and will also support the firm’s telecom infrastructure practice.
Bradley joins Waller Capital from Credit Suisse where, as head of telecommunications M&A in the US, he focused on data centre and hosting operators, fixed line companies for enterprises and consumers and wireless operators and was instrumental in building a telecommunications M&A business.

Alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group has agreed to invest up to USD800m in Genesee & Wyoming Inc (GWI), which will enable GWI to acquire RailAmerica for an all cash purchase price of USD2bn (USD27.50 per share).
Equity for the investment will come from Carlyle Partners V, a USD13.7bn US buyout fund.
Financing will be provided by Bank of America Merrill Lynch. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approval and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Sandoz has completed its USD1.525bn acquisition of specialty US dermatology company Fougera Pharmaceuticals on a cash and debt free basis.
Fougera had net sales of USD 429m in 2011 in the US alone and, combined with Sandoz’s existing generic dermatology franchise, this positions Sandoz as the number one in generic dermatology medicines both globally and in the US.
Fougera has strong dermatology development and manufacturing expertise, particularly in the area of semi-solid forms such as creams and ointments, as well as a well-known branded business, PharmaDerm.
