Conyers Dill & Pearman has recruited litigation lawyer Scott Pearman and corporate lawyer Niel Jones (pictured) to the firm’s Bermuda office as it continues to strengthen its Bermuda offering.
Pearman joins Conyers from Ely Place Chambers in London, where he was a barrister for 13 years specialising in commercial litigation. Scott provides advocacy and advice on all aspects of civil and commercial law, with a focus on dispute resolution relating to business and commerce, insurance and reinsurance, trust and chancery, employment and discrimination, arbitration, and the law relating to media and information.

Investec Growth & Acquisition Finance, part of Investec Specialist Bank, has appointed Shaun Mullin to focus on the origination and execution of predominately senior debt deals in conjunction with mezzanine, equity and integrated financing for entrepreneurs and private equity firms. He will report to Ed Cottrell, Head of Investec Growth & Acquisition Finance.

The shipping sector is looking to new sources of finance in place of bank funding, according to survey by international legal practice Norton Rose Group.
While 43% of respondents said that they expect their primary source of funding will continue to come from bank debt over the next two years, 31% said that they expect this would come from private equity and 18% from export credit agencies.

Andrew Bishop, a managing director in power, utilities and infrastructure investment banking at Goldman Sachs in London, is to join infrastructure fund manager Alinda Capital Partners.
Bishop has over 12 years of investment banking experience, most recently with Goldman Sachs, whom he joined at the beginning of 2008. He will become a managing director at Alinda and will be based in Alinda’s London office, where he will spearhead principal investment activity in core infrastructure assets in Europe. He will join Alinda in April.

Business Growth Fund (BGF), established to help Britain’s fast-growing smaller and medium sized businesses, has invested in GCI Telecom Group (GCI Com), an independent telecoms and data services provider, led by Midlands-based IT and communications entrepreneur, Wayne Martin.
BGF has invested GBP10 million of equity capital to support GCI Com’s organic growth and active acquisition strategy, in return for a minority stake in the company.

EmVest manages the Emergent African Land Fund, a private equity fund focusing on the agricultural sector, with projects in Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The company supports the growth of sub-Saharan Africa through responsible capital allocation sourced from investors in both developed and developing countries. It is a for-profit company that targets a return of 20% per annum.

General Atlantic is to acquire a minority equity stake in FNZ, a provider of technology, transaction and custody services to the wealth management industry, investing alongside HIG Europe and the management team. Completion of the transaction remains subject to EU competition commission approval.
HIG originally backed an MBO of FNZ in early 2009. FNZ has subsequently seen significant expansion in its customer base in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, developing long term partnerships with blue-chip customers including Standard Life, AXA, JP Morgan, HSBC, AMP, National Australia Bank, Friends Life, UBS, Zurich and Close Brothers Asset Management.

Private equity firm HIG Capital has appointed Mark Tricolli as a Manging Director with the firm’s growth capital investment affiliate, HIG Growth Partners.
Before joining HIG, Tricolli was a partner at Enhanced Equity Fund, a lower middle market private equity firm where he was responsible for investments in the healthcare industry. Previously he was with JW Childs where he focused on investments in the healthcare, consumer, retail and business service industries. He was on the board of a number of companies including Sheridan Healthcare, Equinox Fitness, Joseph Abboud and CHG Healthcare. Tricolli began his private equity career at William Blair
