Phoenix Services International, a steel mill services provider, has acquired Gagneraud Industrie SAS (GI). GI will now be known as Phoenix Services France. Headquartered in France, GI began operations in the early 1900s as a subsidiary of the Gagneraud Group, which was founded in 1880, and is the largest provider of steel mill services in France.  GI has a longstanding strong reputation for providing critical services to steel mills and for being a leading supplier of slag to the construction and building materials industries. Satvat joins KKR from Apax Partners where he served as a Principal on the health care investment team and managed new investments and portfolio companies across various health care sub-sectors. Private equity firm HIG Capital has opened an office in Rio de Janeiro and appointed Fernando Marques Oliveira as a Managing Director to lead its Brazil and Latin America team. Prior to joining HIG, Marques Oliveira was Managing Director and head of the Latin America team at General Atlantic (GA), where he was involved in a number of transactions including Qualicorp and Peixe Urbano. For a second year running, the investments of LDC, the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group, feature most prominently on the annual Sunday Times Deloitte Buyout Track 100.   Published this weekend for a sixth year, the league table ranks Britain’s 100 private-equity-backed companies with the fastest-growing profits (ebitda) over the last two years.   LDC is the private-equity house with the highest number of investments on the league table. Commercial law firm EMW has appointed Jodi Tierney (pictured) as its new Head of Asset Based Lending (ABL), as part of substantial plans to expand its London office. China surpassed the UK to become the second-largest recipient of venture capital equity financing in 2011. According to Dow Jones VentureSource, which tracks venture-backed companies, Chinese firms received 332 venture capital equity financing deals in 2011, surpassing the UK’s 274. The US retained its lead with 3,209 deals.
