Boutique investment bank Dexion Capital has appointed listed alternatives stalwart, Tom Skinner, as head of research.
Skinner, reporting to Ana Haurie (pictured), Dexion’s Group Managing Director, was previously a Senior Research Analyst at JP Morgan Cazenove, leading coverage on listed hedge funds and listed offshore property funds, as well as covering listed private equity, infrastructure funds and conventional equity investment companies. Tom’s research has been Extel-ranked number one for the past five years. His appointment comes following an internal reshuffle at Dexion which sees the creation of a new product development area, led by Roy Kuo.

Golden Crescent Investments, a Citadel Capital opportunity-specific fund, has signed a share purchase agreement to sell 100% of its interest in National Petroleum Company Egypt Limited (NPC Egypt), a wholly owned portfolio company, to Sea Dragon Energy Inc (Sea Dragon) (TSX-V: SDX), a Calgary-based exploration and development company.
Sea Dragon has agreed to pay cash and share consideration equal to USD147.5 million, consisting of USD60 million in cash and 350 million common shares of Sea Dragon to be issued to Golden Crescent at the closing of the transaction at a deemed price of USD0.25 per share, subject to any adjustments
Mid-market private equity firm Bowmark Capital has backed the GBP32 million management buy-out of CSL DualCom (CSL) – the UK’s largest provider of dual-signalling products and services for intruder alarms – from Octopus.
CSL pioneered dual-signalling technology, whereby signals are transmitted over both a traditional fixed telephone line and a wireless network, in the late 1990s. This is now regarded as the standard format for alarm signalling and is specified by all leading insurance companies.

High Street Capital has sold its interest in Mac & Massey (Massey Fair) to Batory Foods, Inc. With branch locations across the continental US, Massey sources and distributes food ingredients for food manufacturers nationwide. Massey’s customers range from local niche, specialty food manufacturers to the Fortune 500. Massey’s management team will join Batory’s team in operating the combined businesses.

Growth equity firm Summit Partners has announced the final closing of two equity funds with combined commitments of USD3.22 billion. This brings Summit Partners’ total amount available for investment in rapidly growing companies across North America, Europe and Asia to more than USD9 billion.

Advent Software’s Board of Directors has appointed Advent’s President Peter Hess (pictured) to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President, effective 30 June, 2012. He will succeed Stephanie DiMarco, Advent’s founder and CEO, who is stepping down as CEO at the end of June 2012, but will continue to serve as a Director on Advent’s Board and will be transitioning to an advisory role for the company’s senior management.

Maxymiser, a specialist in multivariate testing, personalisation and optimisation solutions, has secured a strategic investment of UDS12 million from new investor, Investor Growth Capital (IGC), along with additional investment from the company’s Series A investor, Pentech Ventures. Preqin’s quarterly deal flow data shows that there were 624 private equity-backed buyout deals in Q4 2011, valued at a total of USD56.7bn – an 8% decrease from Q3 2011. Q4 2011 saw 212 exits valued at USD41.2bn, representing a 27% fall from the USD56.3bn of exits in Q3 2011.
However, ideal and exit flow are up 18% and 33% respectively as a whole in 2011 compared to 2010.
