TLG Capital has closed its first deal in Liberia with an acquisition of a 40 per cent share in the Snapper Hill Clinic. This represents TLG’s third healthcare related deal since inception in 2009 and its sixth deal overall as TLG Capital expands its platform in frontier markets. Founded in 1980 by Dr Sirleaf, the Snapper Hill Clinic currently offers general healthcare services and consultations to people of all ages. It was the only private clinic to continue to operate during Liberia’s civil wars and continues to serve the Monrovian population in an environment where health provisions are scarce. TLG

The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, an investment institution owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi, has appointed James Kester as chief investment officer in is private equities department. Kester will be responsible, together with members of the department’s senior management team, for developing ADIA’s strategy in the private equity space and overseeing the activities of the private equity programme. Based in Abu Dhabi, Kester will report to Hareb Al Darmaki, executive director of the private equities department. Evolution One Fund, a ZAR700m clean technology private equity fund, has invested ZAR51.8m (GBP4.6m) into South African waste management company EnviroServ Waste Management. Brand Group, the parent holding company of Brand Bank, has entered into agreements that contemplate the investment of up to USD200m in capital.   As part of the first phase of investment, agreements have been signed with affiliates of The Carlyle Group, The Stephens Group, the Cousins family’s Nonami and various individual Atlanta investors. Darwin Private Equity has completed its third investment of 2010 with the acquisition of a majority stake in Euroffice. Euroffice is a UK online office supplies company serving the SME market.  In 2009 Euroffice began its international expansion with a launch into the Italian market. The company now employs 49 people in London and Milan. Darwin is backing the existing management team, led by chief executive Simon Drakeford. Provident Healthcare Ventures has launched its inaugural Principals Fund I with USD25m of committed capital. All capital invested in the fund will be provided by the principals of Provident. The fund includes both an incubator for early stage start-up funding, as well as more traditional seed funding for larger investments and more mature operating companies.  Investments will range from USD250,000 to USD3m, and focus on a number of growing healthcare services sectors, including homecare, hospice, specialty/institutional pharmacy, infusion therapy, and disease and therapy management.
