Venture capital firm Beringea has invested in Mophie, a Michigan-based designer and manufacturer of electronic accessories for smartphones and other mobile intelligent devices.
The investment, made through Beringea’s InvestMichigan! Growth Capital Fund, will fund the development of future products as well as bolster the company’s sales and marketing efforts.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

While financial services deal activity has failed to live up to recovery predictions cast at the beginning of year, further industry-wide restructuring and investment for growth has resulted in a flow of mid-market deals, according to the latest European Financial Services M&A Insight report from PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Although the overall value of European financial services M&A increased during the second quarter of 2010, activity remained at a lower level than the same period of 2009.
The value of European financial services M&A increased to EUR10.9bn in the second quarter of 2010, from EUR7.8bn in the first.

Peakside Capital has launched as real estate private equity firm by former senior managers of Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
The transaction included the acquisition by Peakside of Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s 100 per cent indirect interest in the general partner of the Merrill Lynch European Real Estate Opportunity Fund, which has a total of EUR261m of capital commitments.
Peakside has replaced an affiliate of Bank of America Merrill Lynch as the manager of the fund.
Peakside has also acquired Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s interests in the general partner and investment manager of the Bosphorus Real Estate Fund
VMG Partners, a private equity firm that specialises in investing in consumer product companies in the lower middle market, has signed a definitive agreement to sell its portfolio company, Waggin’ Train, a marketer of real-meat dog treats, to Nestle Purina PetCare.
The transaction has received US regulatory approval and is expected to be completed by the end of September.

European Risk Capital, an independent investment banking practice specialising in structured capital raising and risk advisory activities, has appointed Robert Baskeyfield to its real estate group as executive director.
Formerly responsible for origination in KBC’s London real estate group, Baskeyfield built its commercial property business from a low base to a fully functional asset platform in the region of USD1bn.
Prior to KBC, he spent nearly a decade in the German real estate sector and was instrumental in the establishment of Deutsche Hyp in London, the real estate lending arm of the Dresdner/Kleinwort Benson and Allianz Banking Group.

CapVest, a European mid-market private equity firm, has reached conditional agreement to establish Valeo Foods, an Irish food company that will combine the businesses of Origin Foods, the food division of the ESM and AIM listed Origin Enterprises, with Batchelors, a privately-owned Irish ambient food company.
On completion, CapVest will hold 55 per cent of the equity of Valeo, with the balance held by Origin.
Completion is subject to Irish Competition Authority approval.
Valeo will bring together a portfolio of consumer food brands including Odlums, Shamrock and Roma from Origin, and Batchelors, Erin, Sqeez and Lustre from Batchelors.
The new
Private equity firm Doughty Hanson is to acquire Equity Trust, a provider business administration and fiduciary services, for a total consideration of EUR350m from Candover and other institutional shareholders.
The existing senior management team will invest alongside Doughty Hanson.
Equity Trust provides administrative services to organisations worldwide, including secretarial and legal administration services; structured finance solutions; fund administration; complex private client administration; and book keeping and accounting.
The business employs more than 1,200 people in more than 40 offices around the world, and services more than 14,000 client entities.

Highlander Partners, a Dallas-based investment firm, and Flexpoint Ford, a private equity firm dedicated to the healthcare and financial services sectors, have completed the acquisition of Eagle Hospital Physicians.
Eagle is a practice management company providing hospitalist contract services, telemedicine and hospitalist temporary staffing to its hospital partners, primarily in the US Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
Highlander and Flexpoint are joined in the transaction by Health Enterprise Partners. Highlander Partners, Flexpoint Ford and HEP have committed substantial additional capital to support future growth initiatives of the company.

Key Principal Partners, a USD1bn private investment firm, has sold its shares in Clover Technologies Group, which recycles and remanufactures laser toner and inkjet cartridges.
Clover sells its products under its own brand names as well as under the private label brands of several large retail and business-to-business office product dealer customers.
Key Principal Partners led a USD26m minority common equity investment in Clover that was initiated in June 2006. During its investment period, Clover doubled in size to annual revenues of over USD400m.
The company was sold to a group comprised of Golden Gate Capital and management.
Eden Ventures has made five investments in early stage European technology companies, with amounts ranging in size from GBP100,000 to GBP1m.
The new investments are:
Brightpearl: a Cloud-based (SaaS) business solution to manage leads, customers, sales, products, suppliers, website and finances in a single online service for SMEs. Eden has invested alongside Notion Capital and other shareholders include Doug Richards (Dragons Den, Library House, School For StartUps).
