Clean Filtration Technologies has concluded a first closing of USD1.5m in a new round of financing led by The Dow Chemical Company through its venture capital group.
An additional and final closing is anticipated in 2010 that will bring the total investment to USD3m.
CFT is the company behind the CFT Turboclone hydroclone system, a patented water filtration device designed to efficiently reduce total suspended solids from difficult-to-filter water.
Reducing this particulate matter produces a consistent feed stream that is suitable for numerous applications such as wastewater reuse, potable water processing, industrial processing and agricultural irrigation.

Climate Change Capital Private Equity, a EUR200m fund dedicated to investments in clean technology companies, has led a convertible bond issue in Metallkraft, a Norwegian company that has developed a patented process to recycle spent slurry used in cutting solar silicon wafers.
Climate Change Capital subscribed for NOK85m (EUR10.3m) of the NOK140m (EUR17.0m) total convertible bond issue alongside existing shareholders and other investors.
The convertible bonds have a 12 per cent coupon per annum and a three year term.

Peak Ridge Capital Group’s venture capital fund, the Peak Ridge AgTech Fund, has expanded its advisory board to include Tommy G. Thompson, former four-time governor of Wisconsin and US secretary of health and human services.
As governor of Wisconsin from 1986 through 2002, Thompson was well-known for his efforts to revitalize the Wisconsin economy.
He also served as the secretary of health and human services under the Bush administration from 2001 to 2005 and has received numerous awards for his public service.
Thompson is currently a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and an active member on the
Marwyn, an alternative asset manager, has appointed Glynn Thomas to lead the origination and execution of acquisitions in the support services sector.
Thomas joins from VT Group, the defence, engineering and support services company, where he was group corporate development director for the corporate head office.
Since joining VT Group in 2001, Thomas has been pivotal in the transformation and diversification of VT Group from shipbuilding into a support services business that has more than trebled its revenue and market capital growth.

Lovell Minnick Partners, a private equity firm providing buyout and growth capital to companies in the financial services industry, has completed the final closing of Lovell Minnick Equity Partners III.
The fund surpassed its USD350m target by raising USD455m from institutional and private investors.
The fund focuses on middle market investments in the financial services sector including asset management, financial product distribution, outsourced administration services, investment banking and securities brokerage, commercial and trust banking, and related business services.
The investment of the fund is managed by the Lovell Minnick Partners’ team operating from offices in California and Pennsylvania.

Ozannes and Mourant du Feu & Jeune, two law firms in the Channel Islands, are planning to merge.
The merged firm, to be known as Mourant Ozannes, will bring together two law firms in Guernsey and Jersey to create a firm with industry knowledge across the Channel Islands.
Mourant Ozannes will also be one of the world’s largest offshore law firms with more than 200 fee-earners and 50 partners, practising from offices in the Cayman Islands and London as well as Guernsey and Jersey.

Glam Media has raised USD50mi in a private equity mezzanine funding to build a digital media technology centre, expand internationally and make acquisitions.
The series E round is led by Aeris Capital with existing Glam Media series D investors Burda Digital Holding, the digital arm of Hubert Burda Media, and Mizuho Capital also participating.
Glam Media has raised private equity mezzanine financing to continue to fund the company’s growth as a provider of brand display advertising as the online consumer moves away from portals and large destination sites to vertical niche content and social media.

Private equity firm Avista Capital Partners has added Jim Nussle to its advisory board.
Nussle brings to Avista his insight into the intersection of business and federal regulation and public policy, honed over his more than 20 years in Washington.
A former White House cabinet member and long-time Iowa congressman, Nussle currently serves as president and chief executive of The Nussle Group, a multi-discipline public policy and strategic consulting firm.

LGBT Capital provides corporate advisory and business development services for companies that serve the LGBT consumer sector.

Sovereign Capital, a UK private equity firm, has acquired three funeral directors, John Stuart Funeral Services, CS Bowyer and KY Green, for its portfolio company, Laurel, a Wolverhampton-based funeral group which now comprises 50 sites.
John Stuart and CS Bowyer, both based in Wiltshire, have over 150 years of trading history between them whilst KY Green, based in Aylesbury, can trace its origins back over 200 years.
The group intends to build on the individual heritage of these previously family owned businesses through broadening the range of services available to the bereaved.
