Parthenon Capital Partners, a private equity firm with offices in San Francisco and Boston, has completed an investment in loanDepot, an online consumer direct mortgage origination company based in Irvine, California.
The purpose of the investment is to provide the necessary growth capital for the company to secure warehouse funding and to continue to develop the leading origination platform in the industry.
loanDepot is led by industry veteran and chief executive officer Anthony Hsieh, a pioneer in the mortgage industry who previously built two mortgage businesses, LoansDirect and Home Loan Center. Hsieh co-invested alongside Parthenon in the transaction.

Atlantic-Pacific Capital, a global placement agent for alternative investment funds, has held the final close of Riverside Fund IV, a USD406m lower middle market buyout fund.
Fund IV was significantly oversubscribed and exceeded Riverside Partners’ initial target of USD325m when the fund was launched in April 2009.
Fund IV received support from almost all existing institutional investors while also attracting a number of new partners including state and corporate pension plans, foundations, consultants, and European investors.
Atlantic-Pacific Capital acted as the exclusive global placement agent and financial adviser.

SpeedTax, a provider of Software-as-a-Service automated sales tax management solutions, has secured a round of private equity funding from Committed Capital, an international private equity and advisory firm with offices in London and Sydney.
The new funding round represents the largest private equity investment in SpeedTax to date.

PassivSystems is using this first round of external finance to establish a major commercial partnership and launch its first commercial product in early 2010.

The acquisition of Tradeware Global expands SS&C’s electronic trading offering in the broker/dealer market on a global basis.
The acquisition adds approximately 250 clients and 60 staff based in New York and London to SS&C’s global capabilities.

The UK saw a 24.5 per cent decrease in UK mergers and acquisitions and equity capital market transactions announced during 2009, according to data from Experian.
In the UK there were 4,269 deals announced in 2009 compared to 5,656 in 2008. GBP272.6bn worth of transactions were announced in the UK in the year, up by 0.22 per cent on 2008.
There were 8.4 per cent fewer deals announced during Q4 2009 compared to Q3 2009. Deal volumes decreased from 1,098 transactions in Q3 to 1,006 in Q4.
JP Morgan Chase announced the most UK deals in 2009, advising on 82
Berkshire Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm, has appointed Joshua A. Lutzker as a managing director.
He joins the 11 current managing directors of Berkshire in managing the firm and its affiliated investment funds.
Lutzker originally joined Berkshire Partners in 1998 as an associate and returned to Berkshire in 2002 after graduating from business school. He has worked closely with a number of Berkshire’s consumer products and retailing companies.
Lutzker started his career as an associate consultant at Bain.
Merger and acquisition deal value and volume fell 27 per cent in 2009, but the end of the year showed signs that the recession is coming to an end and M&A is starting to pick up, according to a report by mergermarket.
The last quarter of 2009 was the best quarter in value terms since the third quarter of 2008.
With 2,523 announced deals valued at USD626.8bn, the quarter saw an increase of 35 per cent over the same period in 2008 and 90 per cent compared to the previous quarter.
