Freemarket, a fintech platform for regulated B2B cross-border payments and currency exchange, has secured a growth capital investment from Baird Capital’s Global Private Equity Fund. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. The investment will be used to support Freemarket’s growth and international expansion, as well as providing a partial cash-out to existing shareholders.  Freemarket provides its customers with B2B cross-border payments through its proprietary technology platform. The company’s global banking network and technology platform enables customers to send payments and funds to over 100 countries in 140 currencies.   Baird Capital was advised by Squire Patton Boggs

Private equity funds managed by Blackstone have acquired International Gemological Institute (IGI), a specialist in the independent certification of diamonds, gemstones, and jewellery from Shanghai Yuyuan Tourist Mart, a subsidiary of Fosun, and Roland Lorie, a member of the company’s founding family.
Global investment firm KKR has appointed Dan Pietrzak as global head of private credit. Most recently, Pietrzak served as co-head of private credit alongside Matthieu Boulanger, who is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

Despite growing fears that higher interest rates will curb the private equity returns, CalPERS, the biggest US public pension plan, is considering upping its allocation to the asset class according to a report by The Financial Times.
Sentinel Capital Partners, a private equity firm that invests in mid-market companies in the US and Canada, with a particular focus on aerospace and defence, and industrial business, has sold portfolio company ECM Industries, to nVent Electric plc for a purchase price of $1.1 billion. ECM is a global manufacturer and supplier of electrical connectors, tools, and test instruments for construction, maintenance, lighting, irrigation, landscape supply, and gas utility applications.  The company serves professional electricians, contractors, maintenance technicians, and do-it-yourselfers with a wide range of premium brands, including ILSCO, Gardner Bender, and King Innovation.
