Connection Capital, the private client investment business, has hired James Greenwood into its SME Investment team as appetite from private investors for access to UK private equity and debt transactions continues to grow. Bevi, a smart water coolers company, has partnered in a $70 million Series D investment with Cowen Sustainable Investments (CSI), an environmental sustainability-focused growth investment platform. Bevi machines offer a more affordable and environmentally sustainable alternative to bottled water and flavored seltzer and has helped customers save over 300 million single-use bottles and cans to date.  The $70 million in equity funding will support Bevi’s rapid growth and expansion into new verticals and products.
hh2 Cloud Services (hh2) a provider of software for the construction industry backed by lower middle-market private equity firm Capstreet, has appointed Jamie Clymer as chief executive officer and Patrick Sadler as chief financial officer. Not-for-profit investors see private markets as the biggest opportunity for higher returns in the coming years, according to Mercer’s first Global Not-for-Profit (NFP) Investment Survey.
Gresham House’s Baronsmead VCTs have exited their stake in compliance software business Ideagen following its sale to private equity firm Hg Capital. The deal values Ideagen at £1.1 billion, making it the first Baronsmead VCTs unicorn in pound sterling at the point of exit.   The Baronsmead VCTs’ investment generated a 13.5x return at the point of exit, with Hg Capital’s take-private deal completing in July 2022.   Ideagen is a Software as a Service (SaaS) business focused on helping companies in highly regulated industries – including banking, insurance and healthcare – comply with regulation and manage governance risk. Pembroke VCT has led a £2.5 million investment round in Auddy, a podcast business founded by former Virgin Executive and Virgin Radio International founder, Andrew Craissati. Auddy’s investment, which totalled £1.8 million, was supported by existing investors Haatch Ventures and Brick Capital Ventures.     With over 4,000 podcast shows, 12 million monthly downloads and a historical 11 million downloads in the UK alone, Auddy’s podcasts include popular titles such as Science-ish, Inside the Tour and Smoke Screen.    The investment will help support Auddy to continue its organic growth and further invest in both technology and content.
