Octopus Investments has hired Simon Reynolds into its Multi Manager team. He will be working alongside fund managers Colin Lunnon and Bish Limbu and will be adding to the idea generation and research process across all asset classes. He will gradually take over some of the day to day portfolio management responsibilities in support of Colin and Bish. Reynolds joins from the Australian multi manager Ipac, part of the AXA Group. Simon began his career at Mercer before joining AXA’s multi manager team in 2002. Before leaving for Australia in 2005, Simon worked alongside Colin and Bish in the Barclays
ECI Partners (ECI), the UK mid-market private equity firm, has invested in CarTrawler, the Dublin-based provider of online car rental distribution systems. In addition, Mike McGearty, the former COO of CarTrawler, has been announced as the new Chief Executive who will lead the next stage of the business’s development.   Bobby Healy will continue as the company’s CTO and Niall Turley will remain Director of Supply. The funding from ECI will be used to support the continued growth of CarTrawler organically and through acquisition and Chris Watt, Director at ECI, will join the board. James Metcalfe, the global head of power and utilities investment banking at UBS AG, is joining Alinda Capital Partners, a leading infrastructure investment firm, as its seventh Partner.
 â€¨ Metcalfe will work alongside Alinda Partner, Graeme Bevans, to focus on core infrastructure investments. 
Core infrastructure investments are a new strategy for Alinda, which has previously focused on value added infrastructure investments. 
 â€¨ Bevans joined Alinda in July 2010 from Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, where he was head of infrastructure investing.  Since joining Alinda, Bevans has focused on developing core infrastructure strategies for the firm.

Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets has strengthened its Acquisition Finance team in the North West with the appointment of director, Matt Widdall. Widdall joins the bank from Deloitte’s corporate finance advisory practice in Manchester where he gained 12 years experience advising on company acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, restructurings, and debt and equity finance raising transactions. During this time, Widdall advised on a number of high profile private equity-backed deals, including Endless LLP’s investment in Darwen manufacturer, Crown Paints. He will join Neil Price and Kerry Morley at the firm’s Manchester office, where he will work closely with sponsors and management teams

Carey Olsen senior associate David Crosland (pictured) was called to the Guernsey Bar last month having passed his Bar exams to become an advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey. Crosland is a member of Carey Olsen’s corporate group where he undertakes a wide range of corporate transactions, with a particular focus on private equity, and the launch, administration, restructuring and listing of both closed and open-ended investment funds.  As well as private equity funds, he has advised funds listed on the LSE, AIM, Euronext and the CISX.  Prior to joining Carey Olsen in 2007, Crosland trained at Clifford Chance
Deloitte has appointed Bob Contri as leader of its financial services industry group in the United States. Contri currently serves as Deloitte’s leader to the banking and securities sector. Contri succeeds Jim Reichbach, who held the role for the last three years.
