Pomona Capital hires Ernest Lambers and John Stephens to expand emerging markets platform

Pomona Capital, a global private equity firm, has added Ernest Lambers to the London office as Managing Director and John Stephens to the Hong Kong office, also as a Managing Director.

Both Lambers and Stephens will focus on the firm’s investment programs in Asia and the emerging markets.

Lambers has over a decade of primary fund investing experience in emerging markets. Prior to joining Pomona Capital, he was Chief Investment Officer and a co-founder of EM|Alternatives, a fund of funds manager established in 2007 and focused on emerging markets. From 2000 – 2007, he was Head of Emerging Markets for AlpInvest Partners NV in Amsterdam, where he led primary fund investing in Asia and the developing world. He previously also worked at NIB Capital Bank Pte Ltd in Singapore for four years.

Stephens also has over a decade of private equity and investment experience in emerging markets.  Prior to joining Pomona Capital, he was a Managing Partner and co-founder of EM|Alternatives, where he and Lambers worked closely in overseeing the firm’s investment programs. From 2001 – 2006, Stephens focused on private equity advisory and M&A transactions in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe with both Projects International and Cape Point Capital in Washington, DC.  Mr. Stephens also held positions with the Global Environment Fund and with the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia.

"We are thrilled to have Ernest and John join our team," says Michael Granoff (pictured), Chief Executive Officer of Pomona Capital. "Asia and the emerging markets are increasingly important to our business and to our clients, and the addition of Ernest and John will greatly add to our capabilities in these markets."

"The secondary market continues to increase in activity globally, and Pomona is committed to expanding our geographical expertise within Asia and the emerging markets.  We believe that local knowledge and expertise is critical to understanding the portfolios we are seeking to buy and providing solutions to sellers," says Granoff.

Pomona opened its Hong Kong office in 2007 and has completed both primary and secondary transactions in the region and across Latin America, India and the Middle East.
