Sidley Austin LLP has appointed Ted Kamman as a partner in New York in the firm’s M&A and private equity practice. Kamma, who has more than 17 years of experience working on international deals under the laws of more than 22 different countries, focuses on cross-border mergers and acquisitions and securities offerings.
In addition to advising Asian and European acquirers on strategic transactions, Kamman has, over the course of his career, represented most of the major investment banks. He has represented buyers, sellers and target companies in public tender offers, as well as privately negotiated M&A deals.
“Ted has significant and broad experience handling major cross-border deals in a long list of industries,” says Scott Freeman (pictured), a global coordinator of Sidley’s M&A and private equity group. “Ted will be a great asset to the firm and deepen our already strong M&A presence in New York.”
Kamman has been responsible for many high-profile, precedent-setting transactions, including the USD24 billion Russo-US exchange offer for VimpelCom, a dual track IPO and M&A process resulting in the EUR3.3 billion sale of Europcar and privatizations and IPOs by Maroc Telecom (USD1 billion), EADS (EUR2,4 billion) and Aerospatiale Matra (USD1.3 billion).
“Sidley has a robust global platform, with a strong presence throughout Europe, Japan and China, especially in the M&A arena,” says Kamman. “I am confident that this international reach, and Sidley’s collegial culture, will give me the opportunity to enhance and develop my practice.”
Kamman is the author of numerous articles on M&A and securities laws. He received his law degree from Columbia University (Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar), master’s degree in International Relations from Oxford University (Marshall Scholar) and bachelor’s degree from Pomona College (Phi Beta Kappa). He is fluent in French and Russian.
