Law firm Trowers & Hamlins advised international private equity firm C&C Alpha Group on the sale of Alpha Hospitals to Cygnet Health Care, one of the UK largest independent providers of mental health and social care pathways.
Alpha Hospitals operates three low to medium secure mental health facilities located in Bury, Woking and Sheffield. Since its initial investment in 2002, C&C Alpha Group has grown Alpha Hospitals substantially, developing highly specialised services and facilities that support men, women and adolescents with mental health conditions and learning disabilities.
The purchase will grow Cygnet Health Care's existing footprint from 17 mental health facilities to 20 in the UK.
Corporate partner and care specialist Tim Nye, who led on the deal, says: "This deal reflects the wider consolidation we have been seeing across the market recently. Many private healthcare providers are looking to offer more and more specialised services and choosing to focus their efforts on particular areas. Providers – and patients – can benefit from the economies of scale achieved through highly targeted acquisitions.
"C&C Alpha Group, together with management, has established and developed an exceptional business and we look forward to seeing Alpha Hospitals' continued development under Cygnet."
In addition to Tim Nye, senior associate Alison Chivers also advised on the sale.
