Dutch firm Waterland Private Equity has made an investment in Beyond Law Group, which is intended to support the law firm’s growth through recruitment, the expansion of existing practices as well as acquisitions of niche practices.
Beyond Law Group was established in 2017 and has offices in Manchester, Cheshire and London, employing around 100. The company creates and manages specialist legal practices including Beyond Corporate, McAlister Family Law and more recently Home Property Law.
Its approach is described in a statement as offering “a more disruptive, innovative, culture centric approach to legal services; a very real alternative option to lawyers and clients who are looking for something different to “big firm” law”.
Matt Fleetwood, founder and chief executive of Beyond Law Group, will continue to lead the business alongside Amanda McAlister, a managing partner at McAlister Family Law, and James Corlett, a managing partner at Beyond Corporate. Steve Smith, former CFO of Daisy Group, has also joined the group’s board as a non-executive director.
Squire Patton Boggs advised Beyond Law Group while Pinsent Masons advised Waterland.
Waterland’s recent investments in the professional services sector include Cooper Parry, AFO Group, Moore Belgium and Horn & Company.
