HIG Capital hires former Blackstone executive to lead Asia capital formation

HIG Capital has appointed Younghee Choi as head of Asia within its Capital Formation Group, as the alternative investment firm looks to expand its relationships with institutional and private wealth investors across the region.

Based in Hong Kong, Choi will oversee capital formation activities across Asia for HIG’s private equity, private credit and real assets strategies.

Choi joins from Blackstone, where she spent more than 15 years working across institutional client solutions and private wealth. Most recently, she served as senior managing director and head of Korea Institutional Client Solutions.

During her time at Blackstone, Choi developed relationships with institutional investors across the region and was involved in expanding the firm’s private wealth fundraising activities in South Korea.

HIG said the appointment would support its efforts to broaden its Asian limited partner base and increase the firm’s presence among institutional and private wealth investors.

Jordan Peer Griffin, executive managing director and global head of HIG’s Capital Formation Group, said Choi’s experience and investor relationships would strengthen the firm’s regional capabilities as it expands its LP network.

Choi said she would focus on deepening relationships with investors across Asia and increasing awareness of HIG’s investment capabilities globally.

The appointment comes as HIG continues to build its international fundraising infrastructure. The firm currently manages approximately $75bn of capital and invests across private equity, credit, real estate and infrastructure.

HIG’s equity strategies target middle-market opportunities including management buyouts, recapitalisations and corporate carve-outs, while its credit business provides senior, unitranche and junior debt financing through both direct origination and secondary-market investments.

Its real estate platform focuses on value-add opportunities, while HIG Infrastructure targets value-add and core-plus investments.

Founded in 1993, HIG has invested in and managed more than 400 companies globally. Its current portfolio comprises more than 100 businesses with combined annual sales of more than $53bn.

Choi’s appointment adds further senior capital-formation expertise to the firm’s Asian operation as competition for institutional and private wealth allocations to alternative assets continues to intensify.
