Management consulting firm Strategic Decisions Group has hired Peter Hopper as a senior member in its technology and private equity practices in the Asia-Pacific region.

Hopper (pictured) has more than 30 years of operating experience in a wide range of technology-based industries and spent more than 20 years with Philips Electronics, most recently as chief executive of Philips Mobile Display Systems.

He served for almost six years as a member of the Philips Components senior management team and was instrumental in the divestment of many parts of the division in line with the corporate strategy at the time.

"SDG has a long history of helping technology industry and private equity clients address the enormous uncertainties they face in both challenging and booming economic times," says Ravi Visweswara, managing director of SDG’s India and Asia-Pacific practice. "We are delighted to have Peter, with his considerable operational, general management, and private equity experience, take on a significant role in this growing practice."

"SDG offers unique insight into how technology companies can manage risk and uncertainty," Hopper adds. "Having also experienced first-hand the challenges facing professional investors, I appreciate the needs and challenges of private equity and venture houses in managing complex portfolios across diverse industries."

Since leaving Philips Electronics, Hopper has led a number of venture-backed companies in Asia and most recently completed a two-year stint as managing director with CCMP Capital Asia, now Unitas Capital. During his tenure with CCMP, Hopper supported portfolio companies active in the technology media and telecommunications sector and supported the firm on all technology-related deal flow. He remains actively involved in some of the firm’s portfolio companies.
