Blackstone hires Asia advisory team from Lehman and HSBC

The Blackstone Group has appointed a new team of advisory professionals for its Asia region, based in Hong Kong and Beijing.

The Blackstone Group has appointed a new team of advisory professionals for its Asia region, based in Hong Kong and Beijing. The 12-strong team includes two partners, Anthony Steains, formerly with Lehman Brothers, and Jianping Zheng, formerly with HSBC, and three managing directors, Johan van Jaarsveld and Dong Hyun Lee from Lehman and Jing Xiaowen from HSBC.

‘We are absolutely delighted to welcome such a distinguished group of professionals,’ says Antony Leung, Blackstone’s chairman for greater China. ‘This move underlines Blackstone’s long-term commitment to the region.’

John Studzinski, a senior managing director and global head of Blackstone’s corporate advisory group, adds: ‘This is a world-class team. Jianping Zheng brings his extensive mergers and acquisitions track record in China and his energy expertise, while Tony has extensive investment banking experience, especially in industrials and natural resources, and has managed many of Asia’s landmark corporate finance transactions.’

The Blackstone Group’s businesses include the management of corporate private equity funds, real estate funds, hedge funds, funds of funds, debt funds, collateralised loan obligation vehicles and closed-ended mutual funds, as well as financial advisory services including mergers and acquisitions advisory, restructuring and reorganisation advisory and fund placement services.
