Energy Capital Partners has acquired UK waste management company Biffa in a £1.3 billion deal. The Biffa Group operates across the waste management process, including surplus redistribution, recycling, treatment, energy generation, collection and disposal.
Software investment giant Thoma Bravo and rival private equity investor TPG have their sights set on acquiring Workvia, a provider of software for regulatory, financial and ESG reporting, according to a report by Bloomberg. The report cites unnamed sources as confirming that the two companies are on a list of firms to have held talks with direct lenders over a potential acquisition own the business. Private equity giant EQT is to take Billtrust private again in a $1.7 billion deal less than two years after the automated payments specialist listed on Nasdaq via a SPAC merger, according to a report by AltAssets. Billtrust, which provides cloud-based B2B accounts receivable automation and integrated payments, was previously financed by Goldman Sachs Private Capital Investing and Bain Capital Ventures, but became a listed business in January 2021 through a merger valued at $1.3 billion with the South Mountain Merger Corp SPAC. Funds advised by Equistone Partners Europe (Equistone) have acquired a majority stake in SF Filter AG, a European independent distribution platform for mobile and industrial filters, from existing investor Ambienta. The group’s management will hold a significant stake in the company through an MBO.  The partnership with Equistone will focus on expanding the platform’s existing growth and developing a targeted buy-&-build strategy. The parties have agreed not to disclose details of the transaction. Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners (Quinbrook), a specialist investment manager focused exclusively on new infrastructure needed for the energy transition, is to sell its portfolio company, Scout Clean Energy (Scout), to Brookfield Renewable for c$1 billion in cash on completion. Quinbrook acquired Scout as a start-up in 2017 for an initial investment of just $6 million. A partnership was established with Scout’s founder and CEO Michael Rucker to create a large-scale, vertically integrated wind power producer focused on the development, construction, ownership and operational management of large-scale wind power assets diversified across multiple US states and power markets. Hygiene and health company Essity has completed its $400 million-acquisition deal of TZP-backed intimate wear apparel brand Knix Wear. Essity has acquired  80% of Knix’s shares from TZP Group for $320 million with company founder Joanna Griffiths holding the remaining 20% stake. The deal’s closing comes as Knix surpasses the two million customer mark. Founded in 2013, Knix aims to combine performance, technology and design to make intimate apparels for customers at every stage of life. Private equity firms Permira and TA Associates are among bidders for automotive software company A2Mac1, with an expected valuation at the higher end of a range of $1 billion to $1.5 billion, Private Equity Insights reported quoting people familiar with the matter. Fellow buyout firms Astorg, Eurazeo and HG are also reportedly interested in the company which is backed by the private equity arm of Rothschild & Co. Bridge Money (Bridge), a fintech company empowering lower income Americans to earn supplemental income, has raised $5.8 million in a seed funding round led by TMV.  Founder Collective, Kapor Capital, Acumen America, Bread & Butter Ventures, Revolution’s Rise of the Rest Seed Fund, Plug and Play Ventures, Basecamp Fund (Alumni Ventures) and Ulu Ventures, among others, also participated in the funding round.  The investment will help Bridge execute its next phase of development and expansion, including adding to its robust line up of in-app money making opportunities, sourcing and executing additional third-party partnerships, and growing its roster of talent. Summa Equity (Summa) has appointed Bertrand Camus, the former CEO of French multinational utility company SUEZ, as a thematic partner. At Summa, Camus will be a member of the Resource Efficiency team, working to identify investment opportunities, develop strategies, and support portfolio companies.
