HSBC Private Equity (UK), the group’s UK mid-market private equity direct investment business, has announced the recruitment of Basil Sakellis as an investment manager from European Capital, where he worked in the UK buyout team.
Sakellis, who was previously with Rothschilds in UK mid-market M&A advisory, reports to Mahmoud Atalla, head of HSBC Private Equity (UK). His appointment follows the recent additions of investment manager Grant O’Neill from Nikko Principal Investments and associate Helen Posner, who moves across from HSBC Principal Investments’ funds team and was previously in the private equity due diligence team at HSBC Private Bank.
‘This has been an exciting year in the development of our UK private equity business, with the completion of investments in Transmission & Distribution Group and Britton Holdings, and subsequent bolt-on acquisitions,’ Atalla says.
‘The expansion of the investment team augurs well for the growth of our business in a dynamic UK private equity market in which HSBC has special strengths, not least our brand, network and international capabilities across developed and emerging markets.’
