Smithfield Foods has completed its acquisition of Pini Group’s packaged meats companies in Poland.   These companies will be operated by Animex Foods, one of the largest food producers in Poland and part of Smithfield Poland, which is owned by Smithfield Foods.   The acquisition includes Pini Polska, a meat processing and packaging plant; Hamburger Pini, a case ready meat plant; and Royal Chicken, an investment project currently in development.   “This acquisition aligns with Smithfield’s strategic growth plans by strengthening our vertically-integrated supply chain in Poland and increasing our production of high-quality packaged meats products. Private investment firm SK Capital Partners has completed the acquisition of DB Western, Inc – Texas, a technology-driven producer of formaldehyde and derivatives.   The company’s La Porte, Texas, plant is the largest merchant market plant in North America serving a variety of applications including oilfield, refineries and petrochemicals.   The company will be renamed Foremark Performance Chemicals.   Jack Norris, a managing director of SK Capital, says: “Foremark represents a compelling opportunity to own an industry leader with proprietary, best-in-class production capabilities that provides critical building block chemicals to a growing blue-chip customer base with diversified end market exposure.
CVC Capital Partners has held the closing of CVC Capital Partners VII (Fund VII), its latest flagship fund for private equity investments in Europe and North America, at its hard cap of EUR15.5 billion.   Together with the commitments of CVC and its employees, Fund VII will have over EUR16 billion of equity capital available to invest.     Steve Koltes, co-chairman of CVC, says: “We are honoured to have received such strong support from our investors across the world. The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) is to acquire a minority stake in Russian gold producer PJSC Polyus.   The purchase will be carried out alongside an investment by Chinese investment company Fosun Group, which is acquiring of 10 per cent stake in the company.   The price per share payable by RDIF at completion is equal to price per share for Fosun transaction.   Following completion of the RDIF transaction, RDIF will own 354,095 of the ordinary shares in Polyus. The completion of the RDIF transaction is subject to certain conditions, including the completion of the Fosun transaction.  
Mourant Ozannes has advised on three of the most significant private equity transactions in Europe during the first quarter of 2017, according to the league tables published by global deal research agency Pitchbook.   Pitchbook’s latest report, entitled 1Q 2017 European PE Breakdown, includes the largest PE exit and the largest PE fund closing.   Mourant Ozannes lawyers led on the offshore aspects of three of the top deals, including the sale of Delta Topco Limited’s Formula One business to Liberty Media Group ranked first among “Select Largest European PE-Backed Exits,” and two top-ranked fund closings highlighted in “Select Largest
Concurrent, a specialist in storage, protection, transformation and delivery of visual assets, has sold the European operations portion of its real-time business segment to technology-focused investment firm Battery Ventures.   The completion of the sale followed approval of the transaction by the French Ministry of the Economy.   Concurrent received the USD2.8 million that was being held pending approval from the French Ministry of the Economy and was part of the transaction’s total gross proceeds of USD35 million.

Mergers and acquisitions adviser Generational Equity has sold its client Imperial Packaging to Seaboard Folding Box Company, a platform company of private equity firm Charter Oak Equity.   Imperial Packaging, based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, produces folding cartons, packers, tags and inserts, and headers utilising conventional offset and UV-curable inks and coatings.   The company also offers hot stamping, window patching, and sheet-to sheet laminating for a diverse mix of value-added options including structural CAD design, inventory management and other ancillary services.    “We are motivated to join the Seaboard platform and make this forward expansion of services and technology
