BaltCap has increased its ownership in TREV-2, the Estonian infrastructure construction company, by acquiring an additional 38 per cent stake from East Capital Explorer for EUR5.7 million. BaltCap’s total ownership after the acquisition is 75 per cent.   TREV-2 has been in BaltCap’s portfolio since December 2010.   Kristjan Kalda, partner of BaltCap, says: “Infrastructure construction market in Estonia has been challenging in recent years. Investec Growth & Acquisition Finance has supported the acquisition of SafeChem Europe by CBPE Capital, a London-based mid-market private equity investor. Investec provided EUR20 million of senior secured debt as well as a EUR2 million revolving credit facility to support the management team and the company’s growth.   Founded in 1992, SafeChem Europe is a pan-European provider of services and products related to the safe and sustainable use of solvents for surface and dry cleaning. Formerly a subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, the German-based company’s applications are primarily used the automotive, aerospace and measuring instrument sectors, as well as in the
OST Energy, an independent engineering consultancy, has worked with international solar energy provider Wirsol Energy Limited and German bank BayernLB to provide technical due diligence and independent engineering support for two UK solar PV portfolios with a combined capacity of 107MW. OST has been engaged by Wirsol since August 2016 to deliver a full suite of pre-construction technical due diligence services, subsequent construction monitoring and take-over phase support for a portfolio of 10 ground mount PV assets totalling 61MW.   In addition, during the refinancing of this portfolio, which closed in January this year, OST acted on behalf of lender

Catapult Ventures’ portfolio company Monica Healthcare, a specialist in foetal monitoring, has been acquired by GE Healthcare. The cash purchase will generate returns of 3.5x for the East Midlands Regional Venture Capital Fund, managed by Catapult Ventures.   Founded in 2005 as a spin out from the University of Nottingham, Catapult invested in Monica Healthcare at inception and has led every round of investment since. The company has experienced rapid growth and last year, Monica’s advanced foetal monitors were used by more than 100,000 patients at approximately 1,000 sites across Europe, Asia and North America.   In 2015, Monica launched
Cheshire-based Solutions Asset Finance (SAF), a specialist in asset finance solutions and commercial sales support, has passed the GBP300 million milestone of assets financed. The landmark has been achieved as Cheshire-based Solutions Asset Finance (SAF) celebrates its 10th anniversary.   SAF supports major suppliers of assets across the UK, giving them an alternative to capital purchase. The firm’s key sectors are the NHS, public sector, green technologies and modular buildings.   Its clients include Carl Zeiss, Schneider Electric, Hill-Rom and ModuleCo Healthcare.   During the past 10 years, transactions have ranged in value from GBP25,000 to more than GBP10 million.
The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), a Russian sovereign wealth fund, is establishing the Russia-Armenia Investment Fund alongside the Armenian state-owned company SME Investments. Through the fund, the partners will jointly search for attractive investment opportunities that will strengthen trade, economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.   The agreement was signed as part of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s official visit to Russia, which will include a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.   This opportunity has arisen following discussions between Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov and the Minister of Economic Development and

Concern about the impact of geopolitical risk in the investment profession has grown since the UK’s decision to leave the European Union in July 2016, according to a poll of almost 1,500 investment professionals from around the world by the CFA Institute. The survey reveals that changes to the geopolitical environment are widely expected to have long-term impacts on the financial markets.   The vast majority of respondents (70 per cent) expect investment returns to be compromised by geopolitical uncertainties over the next three to five years.   Despite the risks identified by members in the poll, a large majority
Freetrade, an app-only stockbroker service designed to democratise access to the stock market by offering zero commission on global transactions, has raised GBP1.1 million within 12 days of its second Crowdcube crowd fundraising campaign. This is over 360 per cent of its GBP300,000 fundraising target.   The funding raised will be used to support the first year of operations.   Freetrade will be launched in 2017 and will be available on iOS, with an Android app to follow later this year.   It offers commission free access to global shares as well as fractional shares, which is a share of equity

More than 120 members of the local business community attended an event at Noa Bakehouse on 9 March.   Jon Moulton (pictured), chairman of The International Stock Exchange Group (TISEG), says: “The event was a big success.
