Berkshire Partners has held the closing of the firm's ninth private equity investment fund, Berkshire Fund IX, with total equity commitments of USD5.5 billion. Fund IX's capital was subscribed primarily by institutional investors in previous Berkshire funds. Investors include many of the world's largest endowments, foundations, pension funds and financial institutions. Consistent with its philosophy of alignment with limited partners, Berkshire is the largest investor in Fund IX. Berkshire seeks to invest in middle market growth companies in partnership with talented management teams. The attraction for private equity as an alternative asset class is as strong as perhaps it has ever been. As the results of a recent E&Y survey reveal (Positioning to win: 2015 global private equity survey), 19 per cent of investors said they currently allocate up to 5 per cent of capital to private equity, but 39 per cent said they allocate more than 25 per cent.  This is encouraging news for private equity managers, but with it comes extra responsibility as investors and regulators alike ramp up their due diligence. British Business Bank Investments Limited’s  Venture Capital Catalyst Fund has invested EUR13 million (GBP10 million) in the first close of Atlantic Bridge III, a new EUR140m Fund for technology companies with global market scalability. Increased confidence in the Channel Islands’ funds sector is reflected in positive year-end figures from both Guernsey and Jersey, says Ogier funds partner Simon Schilder. The year-end figures for Guernsey funds under management and administration increased by 1.2 per cent to reach GBP2.7 billion over the fourth quarter of 2015 and GBP8.2 billion (3.7 per cent) year-on-year to reach GBP227.6 billion. Taaleri Plc has acquired a 25 per cent minority interest of its subsidiary Taaleri Private Equity Funds Ltd at a purchase price of EUR12 million. The purchase price is based on an external valuation.  The Board of Directors of Taaleri Plc obtained a positive fairness opinion (available as attached) from Sisu Partners Oy. UK venture capital investor Albion Ventures has held the early close of the Albion VCTs Prospectus Top Up Offers after raising GBP36 million across its six venture capital trusts.  The Offers targeted a monthly tax-free income of around 6 per cent p.a.
