The day of the UK’s departure from the EU might seem like the end of a long process, but it is now that crucial negotiations on the UK’s future economic relationship with the EU will begin.
Until December 2020, when its transition period will come to an end, the UK will remain a member of the EU customs union and the single market, and the cross-border provision of financial services with the EU will be guaranteed. Meaning that until the end of this year, the UK/Europe split will have no direct regulatory impact.

Sovereign Capital Partners, a private equity Buy & Build specialist, has exited its investment in Arachas Corporate Brokers (Arachas), a commercial insurance brokerage in Ireland to certain funds controlled and managed by Madison Dearborn Partners (MDP) and HPS Investment Partners (HPS). The exit, which follows three years of Sovereign’s partnership with Arachas, delivers a 5.5-times money return to investors.

Avignon Capital, a European property investment firm and asset manager has completed the sale of the Ampere asset in Berlin to RFR Holding for a purchase price in excess of EUR80 million.The Ampere building is a unique listed property built in 1926 and is a former electricity transformer station (Umspannwerk), which was converted into offices in 2010. The 11,678 sqm building is located in Prenzlauer Berg, an area widely regarded as a ‘tech-cluster’ in Berlin, and increasingly popular with young creative companies.

Oak Intranet has announced a GBP2.1 million additional seed funding round led by existing investors Maven Capital Partners. The funding follows a restructure of the company’s leadership team led by the new CEO, Will Murray and the appointment of a new non-executive chairman, Mark Quartermaine which will enable the business to expand adoption across the UK.

American Healthcare Investors completed the acquisition of four medical office buildings, one integrated senior health campus and one land parcel for an aggregate contract purchase price of approximately USD44 million, and completed developments for approximately USD15 million during the fourth quarter of 2019, for Griffin-American Healthcare REIT III, and Griffin-American Healthcare REIT IV.The firm completed nearly USD262 million in aggregate acquisitions and developments based on contract purchase price on behalf of the REITs during the entirety of 2019.

Sortis Holdings (SOHI), a Portland, Oregon-based alternative investment fund manager, has launched Sortis Growth Venture Fund. The USD10 million fund is a hybrid venture capital and consumer-focused private equity fund dedicated to accelerating the speed at which rising consumer brands can reach their full potential. Open to accredited investors, Sortis Growth Venture Fund has a target return of 20 per cent on invested capital.

At a value of EUR294 million, the Polish venture capital market showed an eight times increase in 2019, according to a report by PFR Ventures.
The data, prepared in cooperation with Inovo Venture Partners, reveals that 269 transactions took place in 2019 with 85 funds involved. They provided capital worth over EUR294 million invested by domestic and foreign funds in Polish startups.
