McDermott adds Matthew Rizzo as transactional partner in New York

Law firm McDermott Will & Emery has appointed Matthew J. Rizzo as a partner based in the New York office.

Rizzo (pictured) focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital and restructurings, involving public and private companies across a wide range of industries.

“Matt Rizzo’s addition to our New York office is a further step in the strategic plan for McDermott’s transactions business unit, as we expand the firm’s capacities in mergers and acquisitions,” says David Goldman, partner in McDermott’s New York office and head of the corporate practice. “Our group had a banner year among global legal advisers in 2009, ranking among the top 20 practices in league tables for announced deals involving US, UK and European participants. Such a performance in challenging market conditions reflects the skill of our M&A team.”

An additional aspect of Rizzo’s transactional work involves representing sell-side debtors and buy-side senior lenders in Bankruptcy Code Section 363 asset sales, including in credit bid transactions. He also represents debtors and distressed companies in connection with in-court and out-of-court restructurings, recapitalisations and pre-negotiated debt for equity exchanges.

Prior to joining McDermott, Rizzo was with a New York-based law firm where his practice focused on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, bankruptcies and restructurings.
