The European Commission has decided that The Bahamas should be deleted from the EU’s anti-money laundering (AML) blacklist. On 22 December 2021 a meeting of the European Commission College of Commissioners was held, and the revision of the List of Third-country Jurisdictions which have Strategic Deficiencies in their AML/CFT Regimes (AML Blacklist) was discussed. In addition, in the fourth quarter 2021, the Commission’s Directorate General – Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA) finalised its assessment of The Bahamas’ AML/CFT regime, in line with its methodology for identifying high-risk countries.  The engagement with the EU DG FISMA
Fan Controlled Football (FCF), a professional sports league that empowers fans to make the key decisions for their favourite team, has closed a USD40 million Series A investment round led by Animoca Brands and Delphi Digital. Along with Animoca Brands and Delphi Digital, other investors include Gemini Frontier Fund, 6th Man Ventures, Jump Crypto, Red Beard Ventures, Spartan Capital, NGC Ventures, executives at GoldenTree Asset Management, and Sebastian Borget, co-founder of The Sandbox. Additionally, all of the league’s initial Seed investors participated, including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Talis Capital, Verizon Ventures, Correlation Ventures, and Basecamp Fund.   FCF made its debut
North Sky Capital (North Sky), a pioneer in impact investing, has raised USD200 million to support the development and construction of new sustainable assets in Low Income Communities across the United States. North Sky launched its Low Income Communities Investment Initiative in late 2019 with two parallel investment vehicles: Infrastructure Investment Fund (IIF), a Qualified Opportunity Fund focused on clean energy, waste and water projects in Qualified Opportunity Zones, and National Impact Fund (NIF), a Qualified Community Development Entity focused on clean energy, green manufacturing and sustainable agriculture projects in New Markets.
SEBA Bank, a fully integrated, FINMA licensed digital assets banking platform, has secured CHF110 million in a Series C funding round co-led by a consortium of specialised blockchain and fintech investors, comprised of Altive, Ordway Selections, and Summer Capital, as well as DeFi Technologies, a NEO listed leader in decentralised finance. Alameda Research, a global cryptocurrency quantitative trading firm and liquidity provider, as well as core partner of FTX, also participated in the round, which was significantly oversubscribed, with demand far exceeding the initial funding target. Existing investors, including Julius Baer, increased their positions in the funding round.
Accelerant, a provider of risk exchange and data analytics to the, insurance sector has raised in excess of USD190 million at a USD2 billion pre-money valuation in a funding round led by Eldridge. Deer Park, Marshall Wace, MS&AD Ventures, and others also participated along with existing majority investor Altamont Capital Partners.  Accelerant will deploy the capital to continue to rebuild the way that underwriters share and exchange risk to improve outcomes for program managers, primary issuing carriers, and ultimate risk-bearers.
Investment firm Cathay Capital has made a strategic investment in CPAP.com a specialist in the USD3.7 billion market for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) equipment. Johnny Goodman and company CFO Carolyn Goodman will remain in their roles and sit on the Board of CPAP.com’s new holding company Somnum Bene Holdings, alongside members of the Cathay Capital team. TM Capital served as exclusive financial advisor to CPAP.com in connection with the transaction. CPAP.com offers machines, supplies and accessories via its DTC e-commerce website to patients suffering from OSA.
Twin Brook Capital Partners (Twin Brook), the middle market direct lending subsidiary of Angelo Gordon, committed USD3.5 billion to private equity sponsors in support of healthcare transactions last year, completing 60 deals across 33 subsectors. Institutional investors plan to invest at least EUR68.2 billion in global real estate this year, according to the 2022 Investment Intentions Survey by ANREV, INREV and PREA. The majority of this new capital comes from European investors (52 per cent), whilst their counterparts from North America and Asia Pacific account for 26 per cent and 21 per cent respectively. Funds of funds expect to commit a further EUR8.5 billion, taking the total to at least EUR76.7 billion. StarRez, a global provider of residential community and student housing software solutions, has secured a significant strategic growth investment from Vista Equity Partners (Vista), a global investment firm focused exclusively on enterprise software, data and technology-enabled businesses. StarRez and Vista will collaborate to accelerate StarRez’s global expansion and foster operational excellence to support sustainable growth, enhance the customer experience, and improve student and resident life globally.
