New research from KPMG has revealed that private equity investment, both in terms of value and number of deals, has reached levels not seen since 2017 in the first half of 2021.  A total of 785 deals were completed for an overall value of GBP73.7 billion pounds after factors such as the vaccine rollout and loosening restrictions increased optimism, while the depressed values of UK companies further fuelled demand for deals.  With optimism among business leaders continuing to rise and several high value deals going through in July and the start of August, this record investment looks set to continue,
Global venture capital (VC) funding volume continued to showcase a declining trend during the months in the second quarter (Q2) of 2021, with inconsistent activity across most of the regions.  However, North America continued to attract the highest number of VC investments during the quarter, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company. Mid-market private equity firm LDC has exited its investment in Sigmat, a UK specialist in light-gauge steel framing, to Etex, an international building products group. Headquartered in Leeds, Sigmat is a leading provider of light-gauge steel framing and one of the UK’s first fully integrated offsite construction companies. Light-gauge steel framing is a cost-efficient, faster and more sustainable alternative to traditional building techniques. Sigmat offers design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and installation services to a broad base of blue-chip customers across the residential, education and hospitality industries.   LDC invested in Sigmat in September 2016 to support its organic growth strategy.

Despite seeing growth significantly impacted during the pandemic, the vast majority of UK startups are now confident about the next 12 months. That’s the key finding of a survey of startup opinion, conducted by Angel Investment Network (AIN), the UK’s largest online angel investment platform.  In the largest study it has ever conducted, AIN surveyed the views of 645 UK startups 18 months after the pandemic first hit.
