Grasshopper Solar, a Canada-based solar energy company, has made a USD80 million investment in Setouchi Koken’s Iizuka Solar Plant located in Fukuoka, Japan.
This 21.6MW ground mount project will utilise 65,455 solar panels, generate 26,136 MWh of clean energy and offset 19,451 tons of carbon emissions per annum.

Private equity and venture capital managers have struggled to keep pace with the bull market in public equities over the last decade, and the level of outperformance for is on the decline, according to new fund performance data for Q4 2017 released by PitchBook.
This lacklustre performance is more exaggerated for VC funds, with even top-quartile VC funds frequently failing to beat the market.

Alternative investment fund (AIF) manager Olymp Capital has launched what it says is the first European investment fund to cover the entire blockchain and crypto asset ecosystem.
The fund will include blockchain-related private equity, initial coin offering (ICO) activity, and fund-of-fund activity centred on crypto hedge funds. The fund accepts investment both in fiat and cryptocurrencies (eg bitcoin, ether).

Augmentum Fintech, a fintech venture capital investor, has made an investment of GBP5.3 million in UK based fast-growing mobile-only current account provider Monese.
Augmentum is participating in this GBP46 million Series B fundraising alongside Kinnevik, PayPal and Avios, all of whom are investing in Monese for the first time.
Monese (www.monese.com) launched in September 2015 as the first mobile-only current account in the UK and serves the increasingly mobile European labour market. The majority of its nearly 600,000 customers use Monese as their primary bank account, with 75 per cent of all incoming funds being regular salary payments.
ByBox, a specialist in smart locker technology and field service solutions has secured a strategic investment from Francisco Partners that values the company at GBP221 million.
