2017 proved to be hugely successful for global private equity and despite rising valuations and increased levels of competition, the general feeling among PE groups is upbeat for 2018, confident that they can still deploy capital with effect.
As Preqin outlined in its recently published 2018 Global Private Equity and Venture Capital report, the headline numbers for 2017 were impressive.
A total of USD453 billion in aggregate capital was raised by 921 PE funds. This took total AUM within private equity to USD2.83 trillion.

eFront, a technology provider to alternative investment professionals, and PitchBook, a data provider for the private and public equity markets, have formed a strategic partnership to integrate PitchBook data within the recently announced eFront Insight solution.
Leveraging PitchBook’s data feed solution, eFront clients can now flexibly access deep fund-level information, empowering Limited Partners (LPs) and General Partners (GPs) to gauge private market performance relative to peer groups for PE and VC strategies, while also allowing LPs to refine asset allocation strategies.
Additionally, eFront will also integrate performance measurement data and analysis from PitchBook Benchmarks into eFront Insight. Recently released,
IK Investment Partners (IK) has closed the IK Small Cap II Fund (IK Small Cap II) at its hard cap of EUR550 million. IK Small Cap II was substantially oversubscribed and allocated to existing IK platform investors.
The Fund is nearly double the size of IK’s maiden small cap fund, which closed at its hard cap of EUR 277 million in March 2016. IK Small Cap I Fund has invested in 12 companies of which three have been successfully realised to date.

InnovMetric Software, a provider of universal 3D metrology software solutions, has acquired Prefixa Vision Systems, its PolyWorks Master distributor in Mexico, following five years of successful cooperation.

Invesco is expanding its Invesco Private Capital business with the appointment of Carl Stanton as a Managing Partner and Head of Private Equity.
In this newly created role, Stanton will broaden the scope of the firm’s existing private equity focus to include opportunistic buyouts and special situations. As part of the expansion the domestic activities of the firm’s WL Ross & Co unit have been rolled into Stanton’s group.

Oakley Capital Private Equity II is to sell its 38.5 per cent stake in Parship Elite Group (PEG) and 9.9 per cent stake in Verivox to NuCom Group (NuCom), ProSiebenSat.1’s Commerce unit. The agreement is subject to approval by the responsible antitrust authorities.
The Company will realise estimated cash proceeds of approximately GBP51.1 million on completion of these transactions. The realisations would represent an increase of GBP10.6 million to the NAV range announced on 31 January 2018, lifting the NAV per share of GBP2.43 – GBP2.45 by 5 pence.

OXIS Energy UK is to receive a GBP3.7 million investment from Brazilian private equity fund Aerotec, its first international deal.
The Aerotec Fund is centred on Aerospace and advanced manufacturing and is anchored by CODEMIG, the Economic Development Company in the state of Minas Gerais in Southeastern Brazil. CODEMIG is managed by Confrapar which is a pioneer in the Brazilian Venture Capital and private equity market.
