Jersey Finance London Funds Conference
Jersey has an opportunity to diversify its alternative funds capabilities and a growing role to play as a European domicile supporting US fund managers, according to panellists at this year’s Jersey Finance Annual London Fund Conference. Discussing global opportunities for Jersey, the panel at this year’s conference, which took place on 19 March at 8 Northumberland Avenue and was entitled 'Winning Moves', highlighted that there was real potential for Jersey to build on its strong track record in the real estate and private equity fund asset classes, galvanise its hedge fund offering and diversify further within the alternative asset classes.
Alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group is to acquire a majority stake in assets services firm Conifer Financial Services. Senior management of Conifer will continue to lead the business and own a significant minority interest in the company.  The transaction, terms of which have not been disclosed, is expected to close in the second quarter of 2015 subject to customary closing requirements and regulatory approvals.  Conifer has broad experience in offering front-to-back capabilities across all asset classes for hedge funds, pensions, endowments, foundations, funds of funds and family offices, as well as private equity and venture capital. HgCapital has assets under management of over GBP5 billion, serving over 100 highly regarded institutional investors, including private and public pension funds, endowments, insurance companies and fund of funds. Social media management platform Falcon Social has closed a fund raising round of USD16 million.  The Series B financing round was led by Prime Ventures and joined by existing Falcon Social investors Northcap and Target Partners, bringing the company’s total financing to date to USD25.33 million. Sellers in European M&A deals assumed less risk in 2014 as the region saw a major uplift in M&A deal value, according to a study by CMS, Europe’s largest legal services organisation. In its seventh annual M&A review, CMS analysed over 2,400 of its non-listed European public and private company deals between 2007 and 2014. BlueMountain Capital Management has entered into a consulting agreement with Harvard economics professor Jeremy C Stein, who was a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from May 2012 to May 2014.   Professor Stein will advise BlueMountain on a range of issues, including implications of monetary and macroprudential policies, financial regulation and market evolution, and risk and capital management. Atlas Holdings has acquired Merchants Metals, the second largest fencing manufacturer/distributor in North America, from Oldcastle, the North American arm of CRH plc. The company manufactures and distributes fencing products for commercial, residential and industrial uses.
