IFC, with the support of the Government of Canada and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) is helping BMR Jamaica Wind build, operate and maintain a 36.3 MW capacity wind farm about 90 km west of Kingston. New research from Intralinks predicts M&A deals in EMEA in the first half of 2015 will increase by 18 per cent compared to the same period last year.  Europe is now a major driver of worldwide M&A deal volume, which is predicted to increase by 12 per cent globally.   The figures come from the Intralinks Deal Flow Predictor (DFP), which tracks the volume of early-stage merger and acquisitions (M&A) transactions. Glennmont Partners has completed the purchase of the Margam Green Energy Project from ECO2 and Western Logs Group on behalf of its dedicated clean energy fund, Glennmont Clean Energy Fund Europe II in a GBP160m deal. CVC, Apax and TPG buyout funds were the most desired secondaries in 2014, according to Cebile Capital, a firm that advises buyers and sellers of private equity secondary stakes. The results are from Cebile’s List of Most Demanded Secondaries 2014, which assesses the secondaries market demand of US and European buyout funds. Andreessen Horowitz – the venture capital firm created by Netscape and Opsware founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz – has led a Series C USD58m round in Europe’s leading financial tech start-up TransferWise. TransferWise’s existing investors, including Sir Richard Branson, Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures, Index Ventures, IA Ventures, and Seedcamp, also participated in the round.    The start-up will use these funds for global expansion. It opens its US office next month and will be opening offices in Germany and in Australia in the next few months. The company plans to open 300 further currency routes in the next year.

Some 61% of London AIFMs feel the AIFMD has opened up new opportunities in Europe, according to research by KNEIP. By contrast, only 35% of New York AIFMs agree with their European counterparts. The research also shows that Luxembourg firms share London’s sentiment, as well over half of firms based in the region agree that the AIFMD has been beneficial in opening new business opportunities in other European markets, thus demonstrating a contrast to the way the AIFMD has benefited non-European and European firms.   The findings come from a survey, now in its third year, of AIFMs domiciled in

Preqin launched its 2015 Preqin Global Alternatives Reports last week, revealing significant growth in assets held by private equity, hedge fund, private debt, real estate and infrastructure fund managers. Total industry assets now stand at USD6.91tn*, up from USD6.22tn as of this point last year. Real estate as an asset class has been an important contributor to this growth, as improving valuations of unrealised assets have seen the value of private real estate industry assets rise by USD85bn over the 12 months to June 2014.
