Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners has held the first closing and launch of the fourth fund in its BioDiscovery franchise dedicated to investing in life sciences in France and in Europe.
Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners reached its objective of EUR125m for the first closing in the expected timeframe and confirms its final objective of about EUR200m by the end of the year.
Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners will deploy the same strategy for BioDiscovery 4 as for its previous funds.
The team will lead investments in 15 to 20 life science companies across all stages of development. The investments
KPMG and Carey Olsen have advised Dexion Capital (Guernsey) on the launch of DCG IRIS, a new Guernsey-domiciled, closed-ended investment fund.
It has raised in excess of GBP40m by way of an initial public offering on the main market of the London Stock Exchange.
Carey Olsen provided Guernsey legal advice and KPMG in Guernsey have been appointed as auditors and provided reporting accountant services in relation to the establishment of the fund. Dexion Capital and Dickson Minto acted as joint-sponsors.

Lightyear Capital, a private equity firm focused on financial services, has appointed Jerry W. Miller, former president and chief executive of Van Kampen Investments, as senior adviser on behalf of its affiliated funds.
Miller will draw upon his more than two decades of leadership experience in asset management and wealth management in working with Lightyear to identify and support investment opportunities in these areas.

Peng was most recently a partner in the Beijing office of Paul Hastings, prior to which he served as managing partner of Hogan & Hartson’s (now Hogan Lovells) Beijing office.
Peng’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, and complex commercial transactions, with a particular focus on transactions in telecommunications, internet, media, software, and other technology sectors. He represents investment funds and other clients in numerous private equity transactions, and both acquirers and targets/sellers in cross-border mergers and acquisitions.
Private equity firm Z Capital Partners has acquired a 24.97 per cent stake in Affinity Gaming, a casino operator with wholly-owned casino operations in Nevada, Missouri and Iowa, becoming its largest shareholder.

BV Investment Partners, a middle-market private equity firm, has sold its portfolio company Northstar Travel Media, to The Wicks Group of Companies.
This is the fourth exit in 2012 for BV Investment Partners.
Northstar is a business information and marketing solutions provider to the USD964bn global, travel, tourism, and meetings industries.
The Northstar assets include brands that have been serving the travel industry for over 30 years, including Travel Weekly, Meetings & Conventions, Travel Age West, Successful Meetings, Business Travel News, Incentive, Meeting News, and PhoCusWright.

Assets managed by the top 100 alternative investment managers globally now exceed USD3trn, according to research produced by professional services company Towers Watson in conjunction with the Financial Times.

Limited partners showed strong support for US and European private equity funds in the second quarter, helping both regions achieve the best first half for fund-raising since 2008, according to Dow Jones LP Source.
In the first half of 2012, US private equity funds raised USD86bn for 235 funds, a 27 per cent increase in capital raised despite a four per cent decline in fund closings from the first half of 2011. In the second quarter alone, US funds raised USD44bn.
