MindGeek, the owner of several pornographic video-streaming platforms and studios, including Pornhub, is being acquired by Ethical Capital, a new private equity firm based in the Canadian capital of Ottawa, according to a report by The Financial Times.
Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
According to unnamed FT sources, MindGeek’s most recently published figures show revenues in 2018 reached $460 million while profit margins have at times neared 50 per cent, while data from internet traffic analytics firm Similarweb ranks Pornhub as the 12th most visited website in the world last year.

Private equity firm CVC Capital Partners has paid $155 million to acquire a “significant minority stake” in Indonesian gas company PT Samator Indo Gas from existing company shareholders, according to a press statement.
Following CVC’s investment, the Harsono family will continue to hold a majority stake in the business and retain control of the company.
CVC, which has €137 billion of assets under management, has made seven previous investments in Indonesia according to its website, including Siloam International Hospitals, and retailer MAP Aktif Adiperkasa.

Fintech-focused private equity firm Motive Partners is in discussions to acquire ACI Worldwide Inc, a provider of payments software and services to banks, merchants and other customers, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Unnamed Bloomberg sources familiar with the matter say that Motive has been exploring funding options for a potential take private deal this week, although nothing has been finalised and discussions may yet fall through.

Petronas, Malaysia’s state-owned oil company, is planning to expand its corporate venture capital arm by up to $200 million with the extra funding set to be in place as early as April, according to a report by Reuters.
Two unnamed Reuters sources have revealed that the new funding will be focused on innovation and technology investments across Asia-Pacific, although the plan has yet to be finalised and details may change.

Payments processing start-up Stripe has secured new funding of $6.5 billion in one of the largest private stock sales in US history, but at about half of its valuation from two years ago, according to a report by the Financial Times.
US private equity firm Providence Equity Partners is acquire UK exhibitions and events group Hyve in a deal that values the business at £481 million, according to reports. Providence has agreed to pay 108 per share after Hyve reportedly rejected offers of 101p and 105p from another unnamed bidder.
Hyve’s shares traded at as much as 610p just over a year ago, before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Hyve’s decision to dispose of its Russian business triggered an 85% drop in value.
The company’s stock was trading at 77p before it announced the two rejected offers.
Alternative investment firm PAG is interested in acquiring Hong Kong telecommunications group HKBN setting up a potential $1 billion-plus bidding war with rival private equity firm I Squared Capital, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Unnamed Bloomberg sources say that PAG is currently carrying out preliminary work on a potential bid including examining sources of financing and the possibility of teaming with the broadband provider’s current senior management team.
Deliberations are reportedly ongoing and the buyout firm could decide against making an offer, the sources said.
