500 Global, a US-based venture capital firm, has promoted Amal Dokhan to General Partner 500 Global MENA.
Dokhan joined 500 Global one year ago as Partner, 500 Global MENA to oversee the Sanabil 500 MENA Seed Accelerator programme and fund. Under her leadership, the fund has invested through the programme and directly in more than 40 seed-stage companies across the Middle East and North Africa. Several have subsequently raised millions in funding collectively. They include Starzly, a personalised entertainment app, Playbook, an edutainment platform, and Sanad Cash, an on-demand payment platform.
GIC, a global institutional investor, and Greystar Real Estate Partners, (Greystar), a specialist in the investment, development, and management of rental housing, have formed a joint venture is to acquire Student Roost, the UK’s third largest purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) provider from one of Brookfield’s real estate private funds.
The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2022 and is subject to customary closing conditions.

abrdn’s Finnish district heating and energy services business platform, Loimua Oy (formerly known as Elenia Heat), is to acquire Pilke Energia and its subsidiaries from Lahti Energia.
Pilke Energia owns and operates biomass boilers with a capacity of 48MW across two sites in the municipality of Kärkölä in southern Finland. The company’s main responsibility is to produce energy for a local wood product company, Koskisen Oy.

clicOH, a tech-enabled provider of shipping for businesses in Latam, has closed a $25 million Series A funding round led by Tiger Global.
JAM Fund also participated in the round.
Founded in 2018, clicOH operates in Argentina, Mexico, Chile and Uruguay. The financing will support clicOH’s expansion into Colombia and new product launches aimed at enhancing the sellers’ experience. Digital Horizon and previous investors, including Flexport, FundersClub and Vast VC, also participated in this round. Since inception, clicOH has secured a total of $33 million in funding.
Alternative asset manager Cheyne Capital has sold its majority shareholding in independent housebuilder Elivia Homes to funds advised by Octopus Investments, part of the Octopus Group.
Since it first invested in Elivia Homes, formerly Vanderbilt Homes, in 2014, Cheyne has played an integral role in supporting the firm’s ambitious growth into one of the South-East’s leading housebuilders. In the four years since Cheyne recommitted to its investment, Elivia has more than doubled its number of homes.

Squire Patton Boggs has appointed private equity lawyer Maxime Dequesne as a partner in its Corporate Practice in Paris.
Dequesne was formerly a partner at French private equity boutique, Lamartine Conseil and previous to that worked at De Pardieu and SJ Berwin/KWM. The appointment follows in quick succession the hires earlier this month of private equity partner Anthony Guillaume, who joined from DLA and acquisition leverage finance partner Benjamin Marché who joined from Shearman & Sterling.
Venture capital specialist Redalpine has expanded its management team with the addition of Oliver Pabst as General Partner as of 1 May.
Pabst, who holds a doctorate in economics, has many years of experience as an entrepreneur, manager and investor. After studying at the HSG and starting his professional career at McKinsey&Company, he held various positions in the sports and fashion industry, including managing director of the well-known brands Bogner and Mammut.

Mondu has secured $43 million in a Series A funding round led by US-based venture capital fund Valar Ventures.
The funding will enable Mondu to scale its BNPL for B2B solution for merchants and marketplaces by investing in its product and customer acquisition. Mondu plans to expand into more European countries later this year, starting with Austria this summer.
Previous investors Cherry Ventures, FinTech Collective, and tech entrepreneurs and senior executives from Klarna, Zalando, and SumUp have continued to support Mondu in its Series A. To date the company has raised $57 million.
