Investec Investment Banking & Securities (“Investec”) has announced a key hire in its Oil & Gas equity research team, as part of the development of a broader sector strategy.Nathan Piper joins from Amerisur Resources, where he was previously Head of Business Development.
Nathan will be leading Investec’s coverage of Exploration & Production (E&P) companies focusing principally on UK listed companies. He previously covered the sector at Royal Bank of Canada and Bridgewell Securities. During his 12 year tenure at RBC, he was consistently ranked top 3 in UK small-mid cap external investor surveys.

Law firm Sidley Austin has hired Joshua Thompson as a partner in its global finance group in New York. Thompson was previously a partner at Shearman & Sterling, where he was head of the firm’s global leveraged finance group and head of private capital.

Legal firm Orrick has appointed French M&A and private equity advisor Olivier Jouffroy as a partner, based in Paris. Jouffroy joins Orrick from Clifford Chance.“Olivier is an up-and-coming M&A talent. Aurelius Equity Opportunities, a pan-European mid-market investor, has hired three new team members to its growing investment team in London. James Sharp joins as principal, and Kayan Kanga and Prakash Rajani as investment associates, bringing the total investment team in London to 10.
All three new hires will work with UK managing director Tristan Nagler, and an investment team that has undertaken a number of Aurelius’ recent equity investments. Since its inception in 2014, the Aurelius UK investment team has grown year-on-year and this continued expansion demonstrates that the UK remains a key market for the firm.

YFM Equity Partners has hired David Wrench as an investment director, as it continues to expand its investment team.Wrench is joining the team to invest in growth capital and buyout opportunities, and his appointment follows the recent raising of a new GBP80 million YFM buyout fund, the investment to support the buyout of Worcestershire-based Innovative Safety Systems, and the recent trade sale of Business Collaborator in Reading.

Cathay Capital has appointed Ricky Roman as a Vice President in the firm’s North American Private Equity team in New York.Reporting to Mark Woods, Partner and Head of North American Private Equity, Roman will be an integral part of the New York team, helping North American companies grow in their home markets and globalise by expanding their reach into China and Europe.

Financial advisory firm Lazard has hired Christopher Mallon as a senior adviser, effective immediately. Mallon has more than 30 years of restructuring advisory experience, serving in senior roles advising a number of companies. Mallon worked most recently as a senior restructuring partner at the global law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.
As a senior adviser, Mallon will provide strategic counsel to Lazard’s global restructuring practice and its clients across industry groups. Private markets asset manager HarbourVest Partners has appointed Tadasu Matsuo as a managing director and co-head of the firm’s Japan office. Based in Tokyo, Matsuo will be responsible for enhancing and building relationships with institutional investors and general partners in Japan.
