Infrastructure investment firm Alinda Capital Partners has appointed Alex Black as a partner with responsibility for the implementation of operational improvements for the firm’s portfolio companies.
Black joined Alinda in 2008 to lead portfolio management and, prior to this announcement, he was a managing director in the firm.
He has over 20 years of operational improvement experience. He has served as chief executive, chief financial officer and head of operations at a variety of companies and as a consultant in operational improvement for portfolio companies. He is an expert in developing strategic alternatives and in implementing organisational change.
Prior
Silicon Valley Bank, financial partner to the technology, life science, cleantech, private equity and venture capital industries, has appointed Andrew Hunter as relationship manager with its UK branch to spearhead its new business efforts in Ireland.
Hunter currently works within Silicon Valley Bank’s accelerator and growth group based in London, managing a varied portfolio of clients and overseeing specialised financial services for venture backed and growth technology businesses.
In June 2012, Silicon Valley Bank announced plans to lend USD100m to support Ireland’s technology innovation sector in collaboration with the National Pensions Reserve Fund over the next five years.
Venture capital and growth equity firm Crosslink Capital has appointed David Courtney as general partner and chief operating officer.
His responsibilities include direct oversight of operations, finance, compliance and human resources.
He reports to Michael Stark, founder and general partner of Crosslink Capital, and is based in the firm’s San Francisco headquarters.

Phoenix Equity Partners, the UK mid-market private equity investor, has appointed Hugh Lenon as part-time chairman with immediate effect.
At the same time, the firm has appointed Sandy Muirhead as chairman of Phoenix’s investment committee and James Thomas as chairman of its management committee.
Lenon (pictured) has been active in the private equity investment sector for over 25 years and in 2010/11 was also chairman of the BVCA, the UK’s private equity and venture capital sector trade body. Since co-founding the business in 2001, Lenon has been one of three managing partners at Phoenix, together with Muirhead and Thomas.

Commonfund, an investment manager for institutional investors, has made three promotions and two additions to Commonfund Capital, its wholly owned subsidiary investing in global private equity, venture capital and natural resources.
Leenong Li has been promoted to managing director. Li heads Commonfund Capital’s Beijing office and Asian initiatives. Li joined Commonfund Capital in 2010.
Managing director Mark Hoeing, who has led Commonfund Capital’s London office since 2009, now has the added title of head of Europe. He joined Commonfund in 2005.
Managing director Brijesh Jeevarathnam, who joined Commonfund Capital in 2006, is now co-head of venture capital.

Energy Investors Funds (EIF) has promoted eight of its senior staff.
Mitch Coddington (pictured) and Mark Segel have been promoted to senior partner from partner.
Keith Derman, Warren MacGillivray, Andrew Pike, Cam Reese, Jose Torres-Monllor, and Mark Voccola have been promoted to partner from senior vice president.
All promotions are effective as of 1 January 2013.

Kuber Ventures, the first full service multi-manager platform for Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) portfolios, has appointed Brett Williams in an advisory role to the senior management team.
Williams (pictured), who has acted as chief executive of both Skandia UK and Cofunds, brings extensive experience of mainstream platforms to the EIS space, which Kuber believes is at a similar level of maturity to the mutual funds platform market of a decade ago. This market increased almost threefold in 2011, which Kuber and Williams largely attribute to the introduction of platforms, and he forsees a repeat of this growth in EIS.
The European Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (EVCA) has appointed Michael Collins as public affairs director.
Collins (pictured) will direct the EVCA’s political advocacy and regulatory affairs strategy, taking responsibility for all policy areas affecting the European private equity and venture capital industry and heading up the association’s policy department.
He will develop the EVCA’s long-term public affairs vision, coordinate advocacy work with associated organisations and ensure that the EVCA maintains its effective engagement with EU and national stakeholders in high-level policy discussions.

David A Sussman has joined Duane Morris’s corporate practice group as a partner in its Newark office.
Sussman (pictured) further strengthens Duane Morris’ corporate practice, particularly in the area of private equity transactions.
He joins Duane Morris from Day Pitney, where he was co-chair of that firm’s private equity and investment funds practice group.
Sussman regularly advises investment advisers and others in connection with launching investment partnerships, including hedge funds, private equity funds, venture capital funds and real estate funds. Hamilton Lane, a private equity asset management firm, is expanding its Europe-based presence with the addition of Paul Waller to the newly-created role of partner in its London office.
Waller (pictured) will focus primarily on client development and overall firm marketing initiatives. He will also draw upon his extensive experience and background in private equity investment and alternative assets to provide strategic support to the firm.
