California State Teachers’ Retirement System has named Margot Wirth as director of the USD16.8bn private equity portfolio.
Wirth will direct a staff of 20 who manage the private equity portfolio, which accounts for 12.7 per cent of the USD132.6bn Calstrs investment portfolio as of 28 February 2010.
The private equity staff manages a portfolio consisting of private equity limited partnerships managed by external general partners and direct side-by-side co-investments.
Private equity staff also manages the Credit Enhancement Program, which underwrites municipal transactions on an opportunistic basis and is managed internally.

Private equity firm The Riverside Company has promoted 13 employees across its 18 worldwide offices.
The European team has promoted five professionals, including Peter Parmentier (pictured) from director European tax and legal counsel to European general counsel.
Parmentier joined the firm in 2007 and has provided legal counsel on transactions, fund and management company issues in Europe, as well as supporting Riverside’s efforts in Asia.
Rafael Álvarez-Novoa, Marcin Goszyk and Nils Schander have been promoted from associate to senior associate, and Sven-Hendrick Schulze from analyst to associate.

Venture capital firm Matrix Partners has appointed Antonio Rodriguez as a partner in Boston and opened an office in New York City.
Most recently, Rodriguez was chief technology officer of HP’s consumer imaging and printing division where he led projects in the areas of mass customization, e-reading, mobile platforms, and next generation web technologies for content consumption.
Rodriguez joined HP through the acquisition of Tabblo, where he was founder and chief executive.

Future Capital Partners, the GBP6bn alternative investment boutique, has appointed Esther Lewis as business development manager.
The appointment is the latest in a string of new additions to the business development team over the last quarter.
Lewis will report to Piers Denne, recently hired to take on an expanded head of sales and marketing role.
The team will drive the marketing campaign for FCP’s range of investment products. This includes the recently launched Future Fuels – an investment partnership that will fund and build a renewable transport fuel plant in the North of England.

Encore Ventures, the secondaries division of European venture capital firm DFJ Esprit, has boosted its investment management team with the addition of Richard Marsh as partner and Jonathan Freuchet-Sibilia as investment manager.
Marsh will take responsibility for managing certain investments acquired from 3i in September 2009.
For the last three years Marsh was an investment manager at Oxford Capital Partners where he was responsible for its ICT portfolio. Prior to that, he spent over a decade working directly with early-stage and growth businesses, including founding the data quality software company Datanomic.
Freuchet-Sibilia joins Encore Ventures from Jefferies International where,
European venture capital firm DFJ Esprit has appointed Mikko Suonenlahti as a senior adviser, focusing on investments in B2B and B2C software, med-tech, Bio-IT and energy efficiency.
Suonenlahti (pictured) has over 25 years’ experience of global management in business building and spent 15 years as a venture capitalist in the US, Middle East and Finland.
He has been a board member of over 20 venture capital financed businesses, of which 15 have been realised, as a co-founder of SFK Finance and a partner with 3i USA.

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts has appointed four professionals within its USD13bn asset management platform, KKR Asset Management.
The new appointments focus these individuals by product lines to better capitalise on opportunities to source investments, manage and grow KAM’s portfolio.

Hirtle Callaghan, a US-based privately held investment firm, has named Jamie R. Johnson director of private equity.
Johnson brings more than two decades of private equity experience to his new position, including nine years managing investment portfolios for industrial families in Europe.
Johnson will oversee the firm’s private equity effort. Claire Kendrick will continue to lead the portfolio management process and Amy Schondra will lead operations for the unit.

Providence Equity Partners, a private equity investment firm specialising in media, entertainment, communications and information companies, has appointed Robert S. Hull as chief financial officer.
Hull will begin the role in early April and will be based in the firm’s Providence office.
He succeeds Raymond Mathieu, who will become a managing director focused on special projects for the firm.
Hull will join Providence from GMAC where he has served as executive vice president and chief financial officer since 2007. He was a member of GMAC’s executive committee and served briefly on GMAC’s board of directors.

Richard Addlestone has joined the funds and investment services team and is based in the Cayman Islands office. He has over 16 years experience and was previously a partner with Walkers in Cayman. He specialises in private equity and hedge funds, and also advises on captive insurance, reinsurance and general corporate issues.
Julian Black joins the banking and asset finance team in the Cayman Islands office. He was also formerly a partner at Walkers, and specialises in debt and equity financings as well as advising on
