The proposed European Union financial transaction tax (FTT) could lead to a significant decrease in cross-border trading of financial instruments in the EU, undermining the single market, according to the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), the global hedge fund association.
AIMA, which has carried out a comprehensive analysis of the proposed FTT, said there would be a significant slowdown in trading of financial instruments like shares, bonds and derivatives in the EU.

SEI has unveiled a new service that assists SEC-registered investment advisers of private funds in meeting their Form PF obligations.
Form PF was recently jointly adopted by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). It requires SEC-registered advisers to hedge funds and other private funds with at least USD150 million in private fund assets under management to report information to the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) to enable the FSOC to monitor risk to the US financial system.

Trade sales led realisation activity in 2011, according to the latest listed private equity Cash Flow Compass report published by LPEQ and Deloitte.
The report reveals that some 57% of direct fund realisations in 2011 consisted of trade sales as companies used their record cash surpluses to buy attractive business. This was almost double the 29% for the whole of 2010. Secondary buyouts fell to 20% in 2011 from 39% in 2010.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has voted to propose a rule implementing the so-called "Volcker Rule" requirements. The requirements stem from Section 619 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
The SEC is issuing the proposal jointly with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Federal Reserve Board, and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
"This proposal is intended to curb the proprietary trading of commercial banks and their affiliates in order to protect taxpayers and consumers by prohibiting insured depository institutions from engaging in risky proprietary trading," says SEC Chairman Mary L Schapiro (pictured).

Pamlico Capital has made a USD28 million equity investment in T2 Systems, Inc. T2, founded in 1994, is a rapidly growing provider of unified SaaS (Software as a Service) parking management solutions in the US and Canada.
CEO Mike Simmons will retain significant ownership of T2 and will continue to manage the growth of the company in partnership with Pamlico and the existing senior management team. The estimated market value of venture capital-financed companies in the US rose 10.1% in 2011’s first quarter from the end of 2010, according to the Dow Jones US Venture Capital Index. The index’s performance topped the Dow Jones US Total Stock Market Index’s total return gain of 6.4% over the same time period.
The return on the Dow Jones US Venture Capital index for the 12-month period ended March 2011 was 32.7%. The largest gains for the quarter and year ended in March 2011 were in software companies.
