OFF3R, the marketplace for alternative investments, has launched an independent index outlining month-on-month performances of equity crowdfunding and peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms over the last year.
OFF3R analysed major equity crowdfunding platforms including Seedrs, Crowdcube, Syndicate Room, Angels Den, Envestors and The House Crowd. The P2P lending platforms examined were Zopa, Landbay, RateSetter, ArchOver, Marketinvoice, Lending Works, Funding Circle and Thin Cats.
The index shows that equity crowdfunding raised a combined total of GBP216.25 million and P2P facilitated a combined lending of GBP2.6 billion.

Artivest, a tech-driven investment platform that expands access to alternative investments, has hired Stacie Yates as director of business implementation and Justin Rooney as senior manager of client services.
Yates brings over 16 years of alternative investment experience in structuring alternative investment vehicles, legal, compliance and regulatory issues. She joins from UBS Wealth Management, where she was most recently an executive director of product development and management. In that role, she worked with several of the world’s largest hedge fund and private equity managers to bring their offerings onto the firm’s alternative investments platform.
Rooney joins Artivest from Third
Quantopian has raised USD25 million in a Series C financing round led by the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.
The company, which offers a free online platform for education and creation of institutional-quality investment algorithms, will use the funds to continue expansion, including improved platform tools, education materials, and the acquisition of additional data for use by its more than 100,000 members.
The funding also will facilitate the buildout of Quantopian's investment management infrastructure as it prepares to manage money for external investors in early 2017.
The Series C round also includes additional investments from earlier investors Bessemer Venture
BGF has passed GBP1 billion in committed investments to businesses across Britain following a GBP11 million investment in holiday park operator Coppergreen Developments.
The firm is on track to invest more than GBP370 million this year, compared to GBP250 million in 2015.
More than 150 small and mid-sized companies have taken BGF funding since October 2011, including Gymbox, Cass Art, Better Bathrooms, Unruly Media, M Squared Lasers, UKCloud, Trunki and Dudson.

A group of private equity industry professionals has launched the Argentine Private Equity, Venture, and Seed Capital Association (ARCAP).
The association aims to promote the economic development of the country by fostering local and international private equity investing; boost investments in all sectors of Argentina’s economy; generate and publish studies and statistics on the activity of this sector and its impact over the Argentine economy; coordinate public and private initiatives in the sector; and foster the adoption of best practices to encourage institutional investors to invest in Argentina's economy.

The Global Impact Investing Network’ (GIIN) ImpactBase, a searchable and online database of impact funds, designed for accredited investors, has reached a milestone of 400 funds.
ImpactBase provides insights on the current impact investing fund landscape supplying investors with a guide to help make the most strategic investment decisions.
The funds covered by ImpactBase have a combined USD31.2 billion in committed AUM. Funds with a track record of three years or greater represented almost 40 percent of the funds on ImpactBase and 75 per cent of capital commitments.

Finstar Financial Group has appointed Mark Ruddock as chief executive of FinstarLabs, a corporate venture group that invests in and helps create technologies for new alternative financial services.
The appointment reflects the commitment of Oleg Boyko, founder and chairman of Finstar Financial Group, to the continued growth of Finstar’s fintech and financial services investment programme.
Ruddcok has more than 15 years of leadership experience in venture-backed start-ups, spanning enterprise software, mobile applications and online financial services, which has included two successful exits.

Align Capital Partner (ACP), a growth-oriented, private equity firm that targets control investments in lower-middle-market companies, has hired seven employees.
ACP was founded in 2016 and closed its USD325 million inaugural private equity investment fund in September.
Joining ACP’s Cleveland office are Rick Costello, operating partner; Katie Noggle, director of business development; Matt Beesley, vice president; and Dustin Brode, associate.
