Maven 11 Capital, an Amsterdam-founded blockchain and crypto asset investment firm, has appointed Martijn van Veen as a partner and director for its asset management business, effective 1 January of this year. Van Veen brings over two decades of trading and fund management experience and has held several senior roles in portfolio management and business development, including positions at hedge funds and investment boutique Dasym. Van Veen will lead Maven 11’s development as an asset manager in digital assets with products like open-end funds, managed accounts and others. 
Alantra, an independent global mid-market investment banking and asset management firm, has recruited a Maritime and Offshore investment banking team within its Investment Banking division. The new Maritime and Offshore team comprises four members, including two managing partners: George Giannakis and Nicholas Petrakakos. The team plans to further grow by adding another two members in the short term. The team offers a unique combination of financial, technical and commercial experience in the maritime sector, consolidating both deep investment banking and strong marine engineering backgrounds within its members. HSBC Asset Management (HSBC AM) has appointed Marco Montanari as Global Capability Head, ETF & Indexing, effective 11 January 2022, subject to regulatory approval. Based in Hong Kong, Montanari reports to Guillaume Rabault, Chief Investment Officer, Quant Equities. In this newly created role, Montanari will work closely with the sales and investment teams to define and build a coherent product and service offering that reflects the strategic importance of passive to HSBC AM amidst a rapidly expanding market.   Montanari has over 20 years of experience in the industry. Cairngorm Capital Partners (Cairngorm Capital) has appointed Adam Watson, Sheena Pattni and George Buckle to the firm’s investment team. Following the successful close of its third fund, Cairngorm Capital III last year, Cairngorm Capital has over GBP400 million of committed equity capital to deploy. These appointments strengthen the firm’s capacity to continue its disciplined investment selection and thoughtful buy-and-build strategies, which have delivered very strong returns since the firm’s inception in 2014. Sophie Catala has joined the Buyout team at BlackFin Capital Partners as Debt Director. Catala will be based in BlackFin’s Paris office and will lead the debt and capital structure strategy for new investments and portfolio companies throughout Europe. Catala has substantial experience in capital markets, acquired in banking and investment management. She previously spent seven years at Muzinich, a privately owned investment firm specialising in public and private corporate credit, where she was part of the Private Debt team. Private equity firm GTCR has named Andrew Johnson as Principal and Chief of Marketing and Communications, a newly created position. In this role, Johnson will lead the strategic development and execution of all marketing and communications activities for GTCR. He will also collaborate with others at the firm and at portfolio companies on broader initiatives including ESG-DEI, community engagement, digital/social media and hiring and recruiting the best talent.
PetHonesty, a specialist in pet health products and a portfolio company of Vestar Capital Partners, has named consumer products executive Richard P Greenberg as CEO effective 14 February. PetHonesty founder and CEO Ben Arneberg will continue to serve as a Director on the Company’s Board, and he and his family will retain their significant ongoing investment in the Company. Greenberg most recently served as Chief Commercial Officer of Sovos Brands, which launched its IPO in the fall of 2021.
Genesys Capital has appointed Dr Maxime Ranger as a Venture Partner. Later this year, he will transition from this role into the role of General Partner of Genesys Ventures IV LP. Genesys has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Ranger as he has co-created and provided leadership to three biopharma companies alongside Genesys over the past 15 years, including most recently having co-founded and currently serving as CEO of Genesys portfolio company, Giiant Pharma.
Lovell Minnick Partners (Lovell Minnick), a private equity firm focused on investments in financial services, financial technology and business services companies, has promoted Roumi Zlateva and Jason Klein to Principal. Zlateva and Klein both work on the firm’s investment team and will continue to source and lead investments within the financial services and financial technology sectors.
Ernst & Young (EY) has appointed Mitch Berlin as Vice Chair-Americas Strategy and Transactions. Berlin succeeds William “Bill” Casey, who has led the business since 2016. Berlin had previously served as EY-Parthenon Global and Americas Leader. The Americas Strategy and Transactions practice helps CEOs and other business leaders drive corporate strategy, capital allocation and transactions advisory through execution, including private equity transactions and value creation strategies.
