Abacus Group, a provider of hosted IT solutions for hedge funds and private equity funds, has appointed Brian Lozada as director of information security.
Based in New York, Lozada will report to Viktor Tadijanovic, chief technology officer of Abacus Group.
Lozada brings over 14 years’ experience in information security and will be responsible for the development of current and new Abacus security solutions that help financial institutions to protect their enterprise systems, applications and data from cyber intrusions.
Most recently, he was the director of information security at Condé Nast, where he was responsible for overseeing the security
Law firm Martin LLP has appointed John Capetta to lead its private equity practice group.
He joins the firm from Kelley Drye & Warren where he started his career and was chair of the firm-wide private equity practice group.

Ares Capital Corporation’s board of directors has named Michael J Arougheti as co-chairman of the board and promoted three of its longstanding senior executive officers.
Arougheti has served as a director since 2009 and has also served as chief executive officer of Ares Capital Corporation since May 2013 and prior to that as president since its IPO in 2004.
Arougheti currently serves as president of Ares Management, an alternative asset manager, and will continue to serve as a senior partner and co-head of the direct lending group, as a member of Ares Management’s board of directors and management committee
DLA Piper has appointed Mark Roppel as a partner in the firm’s corporate and finance group in New York.
Roppel has more than 25 years of experience with complex, cross-border transactions in Asia, Europe and the Americas, particularly in China, where he practiced for six years.
He brings M&A experience (including hostile M&A) to the firm, representing clients in a variety of transactions, including stock mergers, tender offers, public offerings, private stock and asset purchases, private placements, leveraged acquisitions, restructurings, joint ventures and strategic alliances. Medley has appointed Peter McLaughlin as managing director on the firm’s direct lending team.
McLaughlin will play a key role in further developing the firm's relationships with private equity firms and corporate borrowers.
McLaughlin brings 23 years of experience to Medley having worked most recently as a managing director at CIFC and with Longroad Asset Management where he was head of origination.
Prior to Longroad, McLaughlin worked with Gottex Middle Market Debt Fund, Contrarian Capital Management, Golden Tree Asset Management, Wells Fargo Foothill and JP Morgan.

Charles River Associates (CPA) has appointed Robert W Holthausen to the firm’s board of directors.
Professor Holthausen will serve on the company’s audit committee.
Holthausen is the Ernst and Young and the Nomura Securities Company Professor of Accounting and Finance and is the chairman of the Department of Accounting at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Prior to Wharton, he was a Professor of Accounting and Finance at the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago.

Fiona Le Poidevin has resigned as chief executive of Guernsey Finance, the promotional agency for the island’s finance industry internationally, to head up the Channel Islands Securities Exchange (CISE).
She will leave in early 2015 to become chief executive at the CISE, which is responsible for the day to day administration and marking operations of the new exchange.
CISE is the parent company of the Channel Islands Securities Exchange Authority (CISEA), which is responsible for operating and regulating the exchange.

The African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCA) has appointed Dr Dorothy Kelso as director, head of strategy and research.
Kelso, a Ghanaian native, joins AVCA with 15 years of research, strategy and private equity experience gained at organisations including EY, Coller Capital, IE Consulting, the IMF and Incisive Media.
Most recently, Kelso was an associate director in the private equity strategic market intelligence team at EY in London, and a core member of the EY team who worked with AVCA to produce the annual AVCA and EY African Private Equity Exits Study.
