Abacus Group, a provider of hosted IT solutions for hedge funds and private equity funds, has hired Jonathan Bohrer as chief financial officer, effective 30 June.
Bohrer will be based in New York and will report to Chris Grandi, chief executive officer of Abacus Group.
Bohrer brings over 18 years of experience in finance and operations across a diverse set of industries. As CFO, he will oversee the company’s financial and accounting activities along with other administrative and operational functions including human resources, real estate and legal.
Most recently he served as managing director of finance at ConvergEx
NorthEdge Capital has promoted Tom Rowley to investment director and Phil Frame to investment manager.
Rowley joined NorthEdge as investment manager at the start of 2013. He has played an instrumental role on the board of Jigsaw24 and was involved in the company’s recent acquisition of London-based Square Group, which takes turnover to more than GBP80m. Rowley also played a lead role in the recent GBP66m Accrol Papers transaction. He has over 13 years’ experience working across public and private transactions, with previous positions at Deloitte and Zeus Capital.
Frame joined NorthEdge in 2012 as a senior investment executive.
Ari J Markenson has joined Duane Morris’ health law practice group as a partner in its New York office.
Markenson bolsters the firm’s national health law practice group, particularly in the area of healthcare M&A, regulatory work and private equity.
Markenson joins the firm from Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff.
Markenson has spent his career working at the intersection of healthcare, law and business. He counsels healthcare industry clients, including providers and payers, on a wide range of matters with specific experience in the representation of post-acute and continuing care providers and suppliers. Carne Group, a provider of governance and oversight services for asset managers, has opened a new office in the Channel Islands.
Joining Carne as managing director responsible for the Channel Islands is Mark Hodgson, who will be available immediately to serve as an independent director on Jersey and Guernsey fund boards.
Hodgson is a highly experienced funds professional and has been resident in Jersey for over eight years. He has spent over 25 years in the financial services industry, including as a senior executive with HSBC in the UK and Jersey. He joins Carne from Capita, where he was
Societe Generale Securities Services (SGSS) has appointed David Painter as head of trustee and depositary services in the UK.
Based in London, he reports to Bertrand Blanchard, SGSS’ country manager in the UK, and to Michèle Besse, global head of depositary control.
Painter will play a key role in launching and managing trustee and depositary services in the UK for a broad range of investment funds, including UCITS and alternative funds, and actively help develop a range of integrated client solutions.
SGSS’ full range of trustee and depositary services will include asset safekeeping, cash monitoring and oversight duties.
ACTIVE Venture Partners has appointed two team members with entrepreneurial and venture capital experience.
Sebastian Blum joins as partner coming from previous senior roles in Silicon Valley’s mobile technology and VC market, while Georg Stockinger takes up his role as venture advisor bringing large-scale digital business expertise to the firm.
Blum was VP of business development at California-based photo viewing app developer Cooliris, where he was responsible for corporate & business development and partnerships with special focus on Asia. Previously he was in senior positions at T-Venture, the VC arm of Deutsche Telekom, and most recently as the managing director of its San Francisco office where he drove investments in mobile start-ups throughout Europe and the US.
Ambient ecommerce start-up Sophia, the UK technology company that saw the largest round of angel investment in Northern Irish history, has added ex-Wal-Mart chief operating officer John Rittenhouse to its board of directors.
Rittenhouse, 57, has experience in retail, supply chain and technology. Prior to founding the private equity and advisory firm Cavallino Capital in 2007, he served as chief logistics and operating officer at Wal-Mart and was instrumental in the design and start-up of Wal-Mart.com.
He has also held senior vice president roles at Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (LVMH) and Michaels Stores Inc, as well as general manager
Darwin Ventures, a venture capital fund of funds firm, has appointed Charlie Jadallah as partner.

Macquarie Capital, the corporate advisory and capital markets arm of Macquarie Group, has appointed David McShane as a senior managing director and US head of equity capital markets.
McShane will join Macquarie from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he served as managing director and head of US energy and power equity capital markets.
McShane joined Merrill Lynch in 2006, having previously worked in equity capital markets at Lehman Brothers. Since joining Bank of America Merrill Lynch, McShane has executed close to 300 bookrun transactions raising a total of USD136 billion.

Nissan is based in the London office and takes up her post with immediate effect.
