Private equity firm HIG Capital has appointed Henry Gregson as a managing director in its London office. Prior to joining HIG, Gregson was a Partner at Pamplona Capital, a EUR1.3 billion fund based in London. Before that, he spent several years at the private equity arm of Royal Bank of Scotland, where he led a number of successful transactions.

Offshore law firm, Mourant Ozannes, has appointed Advocate Daniel Birtwistle as the Managing Partner of its Jersey office. His appointment will take effect from 1 February 2012.
Mourant Ozannes advises on the laws of the Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey from offices in each of those jurisdictions as well as Hong Kong and London.
Birtwistle has been at the firm since 1995. He qualified as a Jersey lawyer in 1998 and was admitted as a partner in 2004. He ran the firm’s London office between 2006 and 2007 and has been on Mourant Ozannes’ management committee since 2008. A member
Pamplona Capital Management, a London based private equity and investment management firm, has appointed Brian K Ratzan as partner and head of US private equity. Ratzan will lead the expansion of the firm’s private equity practice to the United States.
Ratzan, a longtime private equity investor, joins Pamplona Capital Management after 13 years with Vestar Capital where he most recently served as Managing Director. In charge of Vestar’s Consumer Group, Ratzan led the firm’s investment in many branded companies and successfully worked with their management teams to develop these businesses into category leaders. Maveron LLC, a consumer-only venture capital firm with offices in Seattle and San Francisco, has named Jason Stoffer to the role of partner effective immediately. Stoffer was previously a Principal at Maveron, which he joined in 2007.

Rapid Ratings, an independent ratings, research and analytics firm, has appointed Jeffrey Gibb as Senior Vice President of Strategic Relations & Head of Legal Operations.
Gibb, a former practicing attorney, in-house counsel for GE Capital and entrepreneur, will have a multi-faceted role at Rapid Ratings. He will be primarily responsible for legal affairs and business development initiatives. Gibb will also work closely with Chairman and CEO, James H Gellert, on regulatory and legislative activities in Washington DC.
